((A Geyser Valley, Northern Hemisphere, Peekaboo))

Indrid looked at the creature, then down the slope that they had just hiked up.

Yirah: How’d we even get it down to the shuttle.

Lystra: Not easily, it’d take at least two or three of us just to carry the thing.

Maramox: Response

Perax: Spots! I don’t know. Maybe it likes trail mix.

Maramox: Response

Perax: We could try to hold it in stasis in a transporter buffer, and rematerialise it inside the shielded runabout. That would take care of weight, hopefully it would dematerialise properly.

Indrid frowned.

Yirah: Wouldn’t transporting it carry the same risks as us transporting?

Lystra: Yes. Absolutely. Given these creatures have Chrondite in their biology I don’t know if we want to risk trying to transport them anywhere.

Maramox: Response

Yirah: I’m just not sure that we need two peraoxstra-relkcoons.

Lystra: I don’t think we even need one. We have no idea how it would react in captivity and it would be unethical to just keep shooting it to stun it.

Maramox: response

Perax: But think about what we could learn about it with the resources of the Constitution.

Yirah: While we would be able to study it better in the labs. I don’t think that we should be taking it out of its environment at the moment. Not until we know that transporting it would be safe.

Lystra: I agree with Indrid. But, we should at least make use of the opportunity. Couldn’t we take a blood, and samples from it since it’s unconscious? Fur, tissue, and antler scrapings? We can bring those back for study and not risk further upsetting the creature by having it captive.

Maramox: response

Perax: I suppose you’re right.

Yirah: And lets not forget why we decided to head up here originally, We still need to get the signal enhancer working to communicate with the Conny.

Lystra: Agreed. If we can make contact we should definitely get some advice from some experts. Lieutenant Ilix from Intel has a background in exozoology. I see him around Sarek all the time. If we do study these creatures he’d likely be the one to get the proper procedures on how to do so safely.

Perax: You’re right, we should get moving. ::he spoke with more confidence this time.::

Maramox: Response

Perax: How much farther?

Lystra: Based on our earlier survey we’ve got about another two hundred meters to ascend. From what I can tell it should be an easier walk now that we’re up here on the ridgeline.

Maramox: response

Lystra: Ready when you all are. Looks like there’s more Relkcoons on the other side of the ridgeline from us. We’ll be moving away from them so hopefully we won’t have to worry about getting charged at again.

Perax: It’s still uphill.

Indrid shrugged, not bothered by the walk, he took up his earlier spot near Lystra.

As they walked, he kept his tricorder trained on the signal of the creatures, to make sure that they stayed where they were and weren’t getting closer to his team.

He wasn’t sure what the others thought, but as they continued their journey, Indrid was starting to really like this planet. Sure it was dark, but the lighting was atmospheric.

oO In both the literal, and metaphorical sense! Oo He grinned at his own joke.

It seemed that the team was to get an up close view of the lightning, as a bolt suddenly arced down in front of them, the thunder following a split second later. He heard Lystra scream next to him, making the hair on his neck stand up, but due to how bright the lightning was he had spots all over his vision, as though he had looked directly at a sun.

Perax: Wait for the effects of blindness and deafness to pass. The suit compensates for the worst with insulation and light filters, but that was too close.

Yirah: Is everyone alright?

Maramox: Response

Lystra: I’m alright. I swear this place doesn’t want us here. ::she grumbled:: Give me a moment, my vision is still adjusting.

Maramox: response

Perax: That’s a long way down. There is a natural formed steam vent up ahead, it might be good for a mineralogical survey when we have time.

Lystra: Will this spot work?

Perax: We can but try.

While Leran set up the signal enhancer, Indrid decided to take a look at the steam vent that the other Trill had mentioned. He saw where the steam was rising from the ground. From what he could see it didn’t look that difficult to get to, but it was still about 50 meters from their location so Indrid didn’t bother getting closer to it at the moment.

Maramox: Response

Perax: Who should I try to contact first? I can keep two signals open, but I can’t tune both simultaneously. Should I try to hail the Constitution or the other away team first?

Yirah: The Constitution.

Lystra/Maramox: response

Perax: We better hope there are no pre-warp civilizations with the ability to detect our signals. This signal is powerful enough to be a flare on a dark night.

That gave Indrid a twinge of uneasiness. He turned his head, as though he’d see said hypothetical civilization. He didn’t think that there was a civilization on the planet, but planets were big and he hadn’t thought about other people being able to pick up their signals.

Yirah: Well… I don’t think we really have another option at the moment.

Lystra/Maramox: response

Perax: =/\= Perax to the Constitution, can you hear us? =/\=

All Indrid could hear was static.

Yirah: Was that a response or just some sort of feedback from the storm?

Lystra/Maramox: response

Perax: Let me try to clear it up. I can try to adjust the signal slightly. ::he turned a few dials, and tapped some buttons on the screen.:: =/\= Perax to Constitution, repeat last message. =/\=

The response was laced with heavy static, but it was definitely sent by the Conny.

Bridge:  =/\= <static>...barely hear you...<static> ...receive. =/\=

Yirah: =/\= We hear you Conny. =/\=

However, there was no further response. Indrid turned to Leran in confusion.

Lystra/Maramox: response

Yirah: ::to Perax:: Is it something you can fix?

Lystra/Maramox/Perax: response

Yirah: Should we move locations again?

Lystra/Maramox/Perax: response

oO Well, this is certainly less than ideal. Oo

Indrid reached up to rub his chin, and was momentarily startled when he only hit the visor of his EV suit.

Yirah: Can we try to get into contact with the other away team? You said that you could keep two signals open at the same time. Does not having a stable connection with the Conny change that.

Lystra/Maramox/Perax: response
