((Main Engineering – USS Icarus))
Servi watched the lights flicker and felt a glimmer of hope inside her as the power tried to come back. Then she looked back down to her PADD and asked the question the senior Engineer Shimisi requested.
Aurdax: [IS THERE ANY REASON WE SHOULD NOT TRY TO RESTORE POWER TO YOUR SHIP?]
She found herself clenching her jaw as she waited for a reply. Thus far the answers had been antagonistic, and she tried to shake the paranoia that this might be an alien entity masquerading as the Icarus crew.
Then again it could be the crew, and considering how long they had been… what did Commodore Rajel call it? Phased into a different time? That had to be painful if not maddening.
L'Tang: [BE CAREFUL. OUR DILITHIUM CRYSTALS ARE BROKEN; WE NEEDED TO JURY-RIG OUR SYSTEMS TO ESCAPE THE LAST RIFT.]
Perax: We are bypassing the dilithium by using the nuclear backup reactor. Though we might have spare dilithium on our ship.
Aurdax: [WE MAY BE ABLE TO BRING NEW DILITHIUM FROM OUR SHIP]
L'Tang: [WHERE IS YOUR SHIP? IS IT NEARBY?]
Immediately both engineers snapped their heads up looking alarmed.
Perax: We should be careful when answering this question. First of all, we don’t know if they can see the Aleek Om, and second, if they can, a Nova Class while maintaining a Starfleet aesthetic, looks very different from the Starfleet ships of their day. They might conclude we are not who we say we are.
Servi took in a long slow breath. Engineer Perax made a good point, and from the answers she had gotten thus far she wasn’t feeling like open communication had been established.
Shimisi: If we want them to be true to us and help us, we can't lie to them :: thinking and seeing their faces :: That doesn't mean we have to tell them everything right now.
Aurdax: Alright, I’ll tell them the Gamma Canaris region. I’m not sure if they are even aware where they are right now.
Aurdax: [IN THE GAMMA CANARIS REGION]
L’Tang [ ?
Aurdax: Should I see if they have any other engineering insights?
Shimisi: Good thought. We could get information and our … friends there can read what we're doing. Now that we have a stable power, get some to the bridge, I'm sure they'
Aurdax: [WE ARE WORKING TO RESTORE POWER TO THE ICARUS BRIDGE]
L’Tang [ ?
Leran: Yes sir, restoring power to the Bridge. ::he waited a few minutes, no more than four, before speaking again:: bridge should have full power, life support, and computer library access.
Shimisi: Let's see if our friends have anything for us that we must be cautious, aside from the lack of dilithium crystals
Aurdax: [IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD BE CAREFUL ABOUT?]
L’Tang [ ?
Shimisi: I believe we can set this monitor to act as our comm line with them, it's bigger, it has more power than the padd and it should allow them to check the status monitor next to this.
Perax: I’m bringing main power online for sickbay, the shuttle bay, internal sensors, and ship wide life support. I’m increasing the reactor output to forty percent to cover the load.
Shimisi: If they can keep telling us what they did and what happened, we'll have better chances to repair the systems, help them to get back with us and bring this hip home.
Aurdax: [YOU SAID YOU MADE SEVERAL JUMPS. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED?]
L’Tang [ ?
She didn’t expect an answer, but she figured nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Shimisi: Let's see if we can get internal sensors working. They'll be more powerful than our tricorders and might be useful to check the whole ship.:: To dr. Aurdas :: Doctor, see if you can get any info from them that we can check with their database now that they're operative.
Aurdax: I will try.
Shimisi: It'll allow us to know if they're who they say they are, or at least, if they know things from the crew. Personal information will be better.
Aurdax: [OUR COMMANDER WANTS TO HELP SAVE YOUR CREW. CAN YOU TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THEM SO WE KNOW WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?]
L’Tang [ ?
Perax: The Hyperwarp drive is trying to come online.
Aurdax: Without us trying to bring it online? How?
L'Tang/Shimisi: Response
Perax: ::his hands are moving rapidly trying to find a helpful button or switch:: I didn’t touch that system! It’s like it is hard coded to turn on when the ship reaches a certain power supply level.
Aurdax: [IS YOUR SHIP SET TO AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGE THE HYPERWARP DRIVE?]
L’Tang [ ?
Shimisi: ?
Perax: I wish we had Hexa and Peta right now. I don’t really want to, but I’m going to have to bring command functions online to override the default startup. ::he turned to Aurdax:: Ask L’Tang if he knows which command functions shut down the hyperwarp drive.
Shimisi: ?
Aurdax: [HOW DO WE SHUT DOWN THE HYPERWARP DRIVE?]
L’Tang [ ?
Servi called out exactly what the PADD said as the message came through.
Perax: I know I said to take what he said skeptically, but if we don’t get that hyperwarp drive offline before it sends matter and antimatter into the intermix chamber, we’ll blow to subatomic pieces because we have broken pieces of dilithium. There isn’t enough intact to run a regular warp drive this old.
Aurdax: [IF WE DON’T GET THE HYPERWARP DRIVE OFFLINE IT WILL SEND MATTER AND ANTIMATTER INTO THE INTERMIX CHAMBER, AND WITH THE BROKEN DILITHIUM CRYSTALS, THIS SHIP WILL EXPLODE.]
L’Tang [ ?
Once again she called out exactly what the PADD stated.
Shimisi/Perax: ?
Aurdax: I would have to assume that whoever or whatever is speaking to us they have an interest in self preservation, even if they don’t care about us – or even the Icarus – the Icarus is critical to the survival of any life forms onboard.
L’Tang [ ?
Shimisi/Perax: ?
Aurdax: Theoretically? Yes, I know exactly how hyperwarp works. Physically in an engineering sense? Hyperwarp functions with a massive infusion of power from the dilithium crystals poured into the subspace interference deflectors that creates the rifts. Cutting power at either end should tell the system to stop the process.
