Talking to the engineering ensign was something she was enjoying and the fact that she's wearing the mask helped to keep it casual
Terpes: Do you like these kind of parties? Or is there any other kind you prefer?
Terpes: Don't worry, I'm with the couseling department, you can trust me despite that I'm wearing this.
Perax: Well, No, actually. I prefer to be able to know who I’m talking to, and I had a friend at the academy who read nonstop. I read a bunch of classics while at the academy as a result, and masquerade balls were always portrayed as opportunities for criminals. A ball is also difficult because I never learned to dance. ::he seemed to be considering his confession.:: I mean, dancing isn’t exactly a required skill on a freighter, and I hadn’t even considered joining Starfleet until…
Terpes: I understand, dancing isn't easy, don't be ashamed about that. We're here just to mingle around, get to know each otehr and have some fun.
Perax: ::he sighed heavily:: I’m not usually much fun at parties. I tend to stand in the corner and watch everyone else have fun. It’s different if I know the people there, but I still feel relatively new on the Constitution, and the masks make it harder to recognize people.
Terpes: I see... I guess this will pass as time goes by and you get more familiar with people. Feel free to call me whenever you feel uncomfortable.
She wanted to let him know that he can rely on her not only as a professiona, but on a personal level.
Perax: Another reason this party is especially hard is because the Cardassians are here. Lieutenant Ba’el has me reading about Cardassians trying to help me get over my fear of them, but I haven’t gotten far yet. I learned they like threes. ::he gave a slight chuckle:: Perhaps they would enjoy a waltz
She thought for a moment and then realized what he meant by that remark
Terpes: Oh, a waltz! :: she chuckled too :: Maybe, I can investigate that. I've been familiar with a female cardassian. I won't pry since you're talking about it with Ba'el, but if it's a dificult topic for you, it must be something brewing for a while...
Perax: ::he turned away from the Cardassian and faced Terpes again:: It’s a long story. So, what kind of parties do you like?
The shifting in the topic almost caught her off guard, but she tried to do her best to make him more at ease. For that, she took the mask away and left it in her left hand.
Terpes: I like those parties with music, not need to be loud, but music that can be danced are my favourites.
Perax: Response
Terpes: As you can see by my mask, I like flowers too, so a party with flowers and with a space to dance are perfect for me. One thing I'm not fond of are surprise parties directed to me, I don't like being scared and despite that a mask party might seem so, the environment and people are making this easy for me.
Perax: Response
Terpes: What about your colleagues? Haven't you come with them to the party?
Perax: Response
Terpes: Let's see if we can find them. If they're wearing similart masks, it should be easy.
