(( Holodeck 2 ))
The Rodulan nodded and dug deeper, now that it was calming she had
to find out why this all had happened. She knew it had been
afraid, but deaging everyone was quite a reaction. Once more she
transmitted the images of the older crew members and shifted them
into the younger versions, combined with the sense of confusion of
wanting answers. Knowing that her own mind was different for the
artifact too, she gave it a moment before gently nudging to make
it aware that she would appreciate the answer. Silence, but a
sence of processing washed over her before she received imagery
back. She gasped slightly at the surprise of the clarity of what
she saw in her mind.
D'Sena: Small animals... Without claws or teeth. Cuddly and ...
cute. ::She spoke quietly:: The loss of fear, safety.
Kvash: :: trying not to laugh :: You mean...
Perax: ::he looked bewildered at the Klingon:: huh?
Applegate: Are you alright?
D'Sena: Based on what I had sensed before and now, I believe that
it was terrified to be removed from its home. And when it was it
was scared, remembering that small animals are not scary, they are
harmless. So .. ::She looked up to the others with a slightly
surprised expression on her usually stoic face.:: it turned the
large 'animals' that took it from home, into small animals that
are more harmless.
Tejan: So it really was a defense mechanism? ::She sounded
genuinely surprised::
Kvash: It made everyone cute!
Perax: More like it tried to declaw or defang us.
Applegate: Ohhhh.
D'Sena: If we can assure it that our ... big animals are not going
to harm it, we may be able to convince it to turn them back.
Kvash: If I was it, I would also appreciate something else.
Applegate: What?
Kvash: I think you, Doctor, owe it an apology. D'Sena, does it
have a sense of gender?
D'Sena: A sense of gender? ::She asked in confusion::
Perax: ::nodding:: It probably would be a good idea to apologize,
even if we didn’t know.
Kvash: I don't feel comfortable calling a sentient being "it"
unless it really doesn't have one.
Applegate: Really? You're asking me to apologize to a hunk of
rock.
Tejan: I've seen Starfleet do weirder things.
D'Sena: ::ignoring Tejan:: Doctor Applegate would you call the
Horta a rock not worthy to apologize for if you done any wrong to
them? They are a silicone lifeform. ::She looked to KVash:: It
does not have a sense of gender.
Kvash: And I have lots of questions I would love to ask...but if
we're going to gain trust, we shouldn't be the ones *asking*.
Perax: Trust is gained by offering information and following
through on statements and promises.
D'Sena: What do you mean?
Kvash: Meaning it's time to invite our friend here to ask
questions of *us*.
Applegate: Can it communicate like that, D'Sena?
D'Sena looked to the woman as she continued speaking.
Applegate: I'm not a telepath so I'm just guessing here but it
sounds like you're only getting impressions from it. Can it convey
more complex ideas?
Kvash: I realize it's a challenge...but it feels as if it's only
fair.
Tejan: Apparently we all have time to waste.
Applegate: I'm just trying to understand what it would want to
know about us outside of us being hostile or not.
D'Sena: It can give me impressions and images. However I would
suggest to keep the Q&A session to after we find out how to
turn out people back. We have already shown that we are willing to
help and keep its circumstance in mind by bringing it into this
simulation. We will however show that we are not hostile, which
will not be answered by simple receiving questions.
Kvash: We can't determine that. Only it knows what it wants to
know. But curiosity overcomes fear.
Applegate: ::apologetically:: I haven't been part of a first
contact situation before. Apologies if I sound like an idiot.
Kvash: I haven't been on the front lines of one either, although I
did well on those modules.
D'Sena: You do not sound like... an idiot. But we also do not have
time to lose.
Applegate: We could do something simple and ask it what it's most
curious about.
Kvash: That seems like a good place to start.
Leran returned to the group and D'Sena tried to send more calming
emotions to the creature.
Kvash: I still am not entirely comfortable calling it it when we
don't know what it wants to be called, but...
D'Sena: As said it does not have gender, why would you feel
uncomfortable with that?
Applegate/Peran: Response
Kvash: Are you getting anything, D'Sena?
D'Sena: I am getting a lot of emotions from you all, and talking
about what this creature may want instead of listening to the
person who is currently connected to it. It is overwhelmed with
the knowledge that what it did to our people was in a sense
harmful. So let us focus on fixing this before we badger it with
requests, shall we?
Her voice was calm as always, her fully black gaze wandering from
one to the other.
Applegate/Peran/Kvash: Response
D'Sena: As much as I understand the science curiosity, we will be
able to ask and answer questions afterwards. How Doctor Applegate,
if you allow me to dip into your emotions and thoughts of regret
towards this creature I will be able to project them to it,
showing that you meant no harm.
The Cardassian standing with the group took a small step back.
Akeelah did not have to read her mind to know that she would not
agree to have her mind read for this cause. Luckily they didn't
have to.
Applegate/Peran/Kvash: Response
((OOC I checked with Jon beforehand))
Akeelah gestured her to come closer and held out her hand to
Applegate.
D'Sena: While physical contact is not necessary it will make it
easier to focus on your thoughts and emotions for the projection.
Please stand or sit in a comfortable position to not offer a
distraction. Then focus on your regret and your apology and I will
translate for the creature.
Applegate/Peran/Kvash: Response
((OOC: Didn't want to dictate on how Applegate does that so I'll
leave it here and do the transfer next time :) ))
