(( Solar grid - Paoike Colony - Drever IV ))
Shimisi: Once we clear this, we must follow the lines to the housing and installations. Sir, you know any particular installation of housing that we should be specially careful while investigating it? In case, for example, you have some animals for study?
Thoth scratched his chin.
Thoth: Aside from my walking trees?
Shimisi: As long as they don't step on us...
Thoth laughed.
Thoth: No, they shouldn't give you any trouble. :: he smiled :: It is the people that you need to watch out for. :: he joked ::
Stapledon: Oh yeah? Anybody in particular?
Kim glanced down at her tricorder, pointing the device down at one of the power lines and following it into the ground.
Shimisi: It's usually that way, isn't it? People...
He smiled at Thoth.
Thoth: We do have a few... ::he took a moment to think of the word:: eccentric individuals living here.
Stapledon: Well... If I remember the bioengineering courses at the academy there would at least be strange temperature variations if something was eating away at the lining along the power cable, sir. But so far I'm not seeing anything. And the tricorder isn't registering any abnormal chemical reactions going on so far... No weird bacteria or something that's evolved to eat through power cable lining...
Thoth: That is good news for the environment. If there is no damage then that means that the lines can't be causing the problem.
Stapledon: Well I recommend we follow these lines to a few of the buildings just to see if there's any indication of something at the junctions... But if there is something getting out of the lines and into the soil it's localized to smaller patches somewhere.
Shimisi: Agreed.
Thoth heard the deep whooping sound he recognized and looked up to see the large rainbow-colored animal with wide wings swoop over them.
He noticed that the two Starfleet officers had looked up to witness the beautiful animal as well.
Stapledon: Wow. Not quite a bird but
Thoth: I call them, wejpuH yotlh. I did an episode of my show on them. They don't have all the characteristics to classify them as either a bird or a reptile. They are something of an inbetween state of the two.
((OOC: translation - great rainbow))
Stapledon: Well it looked like it had a big mouth but it doesn't look like something's taken a bite out of any of the solar panels. ::Turning to Thoth:: That's a beautiful animal.
Shimisi: Yes, and quite imposing.
He smiled at the two, eyes glinting with excitement. He spread out his arms and tucked his chin in, somewhat mimicking the animal.
Thoth: Their wings allow them to easily catch the aircurrents. The pattern of colors on their wings are different for each individual so they can identify their kin and confuse their enemies. When they hunt they use their large mouths to simply scoop up their prey.
Shimisi: Solar cells integrity are okay. The energy inversors seem okay too, so we might conclude that the problem is not here.
Thoth nodded, returning to his normal posture and then looked to Stapledon. He couldn't really speak on the matter, not knowing all that much about the technology that went into the panels.
Stapledon: Response
Shimisi: Let's follow the lines as we talked before. Mr. Thoth, could we count with your company for a bit more? At least 'till we do the first buildings where the lines go?
Thoth was surprised by this. He wasn't sure what help he could be as a zoologist looking at the lines, but perhaps they were afraid that they would get lost or something.
Thoth: Indeed. You can count on me.
Shimisi/Stapledon: Response
Thoth: I shall follow.
