(OOC- Just a glimpse into Ellie’s past! I’ll write more for present day next time! -Mel)

(( Flashback - Park Residence - Tycho City ))

Before the Enterprise, before the Constitution, before even the Starblazer… Ellie was just a med student. A Med Student who was currently on a short visit to see her older brother, Zeke.

Z. Park: Eleanor! What are you doing here?

Her brother grinned widely as he stepped out the door and gave her a huge bear hug and lifted her off the ground.

E. Park: Ezekiel Park, you put me down this instant!

Ellie yelled it, but she was smiling too and losing the battle not to laugh. She had always had a special relationship with her older brother. He was incredibly protective of her when it came to others causing her pain or harm, but wasn’t afraid to pick on her or rough house with her himself. He always claimed he was just preparing her for the real world, but the truth was it was good old fashioned sibling rivalry.  Still, when her mom had stopped talking to her when she announced she had applied and been accepted to med school with Starfleet, Zeke had stepped up and had always been there for her.

Nearly in tears from laughing at her struggling, Zeke put Ellie back down.

Z. Park: Okay, okay! But you still didn’t answer my question. Come in and tell me what’s going on.

E. Park: ::sighing, she followed him:: Well, not to make it sound like you were some second choice, we had a short break and it’s not like visiting mom would be a good option.

Zeke grunted in reply as he used the replicator to make two glasses of lemon water.

E. Park: Sooo… I thought why not surprise my favorite older brother?

Z. Park: I’m your ONLY older brother.

Zeke rolled his eyes playfully and handed her the glass, which she took gratefully.

E. Park: I never said there was much competition.

Z. Park: So Mom’s still set against Starfleet then?

Ellie took a sip of the cool water to delay answering, shifting uncomfortably. Zeke, however, wasn’t letting her off the hook from answering. He watched her until she accepted her fate with a sigh.

E. Park: She’s being completely unreasonable! She says Starfleet is too dangerous.

Instead of saying she was right and he agreed with her, Ellie was surprised to find Zeke playing devil’s advocate.

Z. Park: You don’t think Starfleet is dangerous?

E. Park: Not anymore dangerous than any number of other careers…

Z. Park: But we aren’t talking about those careers.

E. Park: What are you mom’s lawyer now?

She frowned in frustration. Zeke had always been on her side- what changed now?

Z. Park: No, El, of course not. I’m just trying to help you see it from her point of view.

E. Park: Her point of view isn’t rational.

Z. Park: Or maybe she’s just worried about her baby girl?

Ellie started pacing like she tended to do when she was particularly irritated. It stemmed from her old habit of wanting to run. She had learned to run and hide to avoid her brothers and their friends when they were picking on her or to avoid getting a scolding from her parents. It was a trait she had forced herself to dial back when she joined Starfleet.

E. Park: Zeke, I love you, but you and I both know this isn’t really about me.

He didn’t say anything, just continued to watch her as she paced back and forth on his floor.

E. Park: Being a doctor is my dream! I’ve known it for years and now I have the opportunity to make my dream come true!

Z. Park: El..

E. Park: No! I didn’t let mom stop me and you won’t either. I’m good at this, Zeke! I could make a difference. I know Starfleet means I might find myself in dangerous situations, but don’t those people need help too?

He put his hands up in defeat and she stopped pacing.

Z. Park: Okay, okay! ::beat:: You know, I think I miss when you were just my puny little sister. Less speeches and more noogies…

Ellie yelped as he gave her a wicked grin and stepped forward like he was going to put her in the playful headlock. Her brother was back to himself and she was reminded why she was confident she could handle any dangerous situation Starfleet threw her way….
