(( Bazaar - Starbase 104 ))

Pushing herself away from the table trying to wrap her head around what
had just happened to her life. Even though Ishiv was gone, Shedet felt
like her eyes were still on her.

Shedet: Shall we get out of here before they decide to come back?

Spears: ::Standing:: Yeah, absolutely... Hey, listen, I know it's
probably not my business but if you need an ear to talk about this, well-

Unexpectedly, the Orion felt herself appreciating that. I guess being
shot up together did create a bond other moments don't.

Shedet: ::shrugging:: I appreciate it but it's my problem. Family. You know.

Spears: Family is complicated... What they're asking you, it's not fair
and they know it.

Spoken like an outsider. That was not something she could fault Edward
for. The Syndicate was not just some pirate organization, it wasn't just
something criminals did. It was a life. It had culture, unwritten rules,
expectations. Ishiv's words weren't a threat. It was an ultimatum of
choices she had made.

Shedet: It is fair, Commander. It's really hard to put into words.

Spears: ::Nodding:: They wouldn't have framed it as a decision unless
they wanted it to hurt like this...

Shedet: It was going to hurt either way.

Spears: ::Quietly:: Seems like there's a lot of hurt going around right
now...

They continued towards the outside circle of the bazaar and she decided
to go for it. Worse that could happen is that she burns bridges.
Honestly, right now? She didn't care. Shedet just wanted to be heard.

Shedet: Listen, Commander...Ed. I'll try to explain it as best as I can
but what Ishiv said isn't a threat. It's consequences of decisions I've
made and a colliding of culture.

Spears:  response

Shedet: There are two sides of Orion life. The public facing one where
we live, breath, work, play, have families, pursues
our dreams much like the Federation. The other side of that coin is
koledru venari, the gift for a gift. My people have an entire society
built around this which govern the unwanted or the wild. The Syndicate,
the cartels on the outside are just criminals but they embody koledru
venari and they enforce it.

Spears: response

Shedet had not realized it yet but she was already starting a rant as
every emotion, every thing she ever wanted to say to every insult to her
world.

Shedet: Everyone just sees us as criminals, monsters, pirates, those who
kill and steal for our own benefit. We are so much more than that. There
is no orphan who can't ask for koledru venari and receive food, shelter,
or safety. And of course they need to do something in return. That's the
whole point. I've boarded ships to rescue slaves but I also helped my
half sister get a collar to get her to safety and to a good master. Does
that make me a monster? Gift for a gift. I will give you my all if you
give me the equivalent when the time is right.

Spears: response

Shedet: ::interupting:: And the Orders that belong in our society. It's
a way to teaching us like an apprentice. I'm apprenticed to Ishiv as a
maiden as a gishule. I left but I'm still beholden to her and she is my
Matron. What she is saying that I am turning my back on koledru venari
because they have given so much.

Shedet gasped realizing she had been ranting at the poor human walking
beside her.

Shedet: ::quieter:: So...it infuriates me when people make generalities
about us. I know others have suffered from the Cartels...but we're not
all like that.

Spears: response
