Kiamon walked into his quarters with a sigh. Almost immediately after the door closed, he pulled his boots off and tossed them randomly in the room with a sigh. He started undoing his uniform, intent on getting into something more casual.
There had been a whole shindig going on and he had had every intention of going. But then he got nervous thinking about asking Jalana if she wanted to go with him- it would have been so presumptuous and he knew how much Rajel just loved that. He still wasn’t really sure where they stood other than he was pretty sure they didn’t hate each other anymore. Mostly, anyway. Tagus’ memories still hurt, but that was hardly Jalana’s fault. She had as little to do with the past as he did.
Plus there was always the complication of it being forbidden for them to reconnect like that. He was still surprised that he had been allowed to remain onboard! Although, even without Rajel there, he had found the work opportunities quite exciting. And at least he wasn’t stuck on that planet anymore.
All that being said, he had essentially “chickened out” as the human phrase went. He signed up for extra hours in the lab instead of going to the celebration. Kiamon frowned at the mess in his room and decided to clean up before relaxing. He had lost track of time as he often did when he was on a roll in there; now all he wanted to do was to lay back and perhaps read. The polar opposite of dancing and having fun. A pang of regret hit his chest harder than he expected. He found himself wondering what Jalana might be up to and what everyone had opted to wear.
Maybe by next time he would be able to face his former husband?
