Zylandra raised her Tricorder and adjustd the scan parameters to
what she had found out before. While brains of dolphins and
humanoids were very similar it did have some differences. Her
suspicion was that that was the reason Sarek had issues other
affected crewmembers did not have. Her antennae bend down slightly
as she fully focused on this and then a rare grin washed over her
face.
Sh'Prelleon: Ah there we are! Your brain still stores more of
those chronoparticles than those of your crew mates.
Sarek: Yay! Sarek has all the things!
Lystra: In this case buddy I don’t think it’s a good thing. ::she
looked at the Andorian:: Why does he have more of those than
everyone else?
Sh'Prelleon: The cetacen neocortex is more cellular than those in
other humanoids and has large inverted neurons in various cell
dense layers. Pyramidal Neurons are also arranged in clusters
between the layers of various thicknesses and cellular density.
However contrary to humanoid brains they do not have a layer IV,
which means that the thalamocortical projection of our friend
Sarek here relies on a different method than humanoid brains.
Sarek: Sarek is different!!
Lystra: ::she smiled at the dolphin but gave the vet a confused
look:: Thalamocortical what?
She looked up and thought she had been very clear but she nodded.
Sh'Prelleon: Thalamocortical projection. Those are bunches of
nerve fibers that connection cerebral cortex and halamus. They
build a pathway for various information into specific areas. Since
the system is different from what the artifact being had to deal
with with the other species I assume Sarek has a harder time to
regain his memories. As you may know it is easier to destroy
something than to repair it.
Sarek: Sarek not understand much of that, but bestest friend
Sh’Prelleon knows how to fix Sarek now?
Lystra: Indeed. ::She said simply to the vet::
Sh'Prelleon: ::nods to Sarek.:: The therapy everyone uses will
work once we can manage to reroute those pathways. We can make
sure that your brain can properly process those chronoparticle and
flush them out. And it will restore the connections in your brain
to properly process your memory restoration. ::She paused.:: One
could say right now they are stuck.
Sarek: Oooooh! So, like when Sarek’s tail got stuck in coral and
had to have help getting unstuck?
Lystra: ::she giggled:: Sort of?
Sh’Prelleon: A little more complicated, but in a way, yes.
Sarek: So, Shprelleon can make Sarek better? Ooooh, does that mean
Sarek gets to fly around the Cawnee again!?
Lystra: Fly around the Conny?
Lystra looked at her curiously and Zy nodded.
Sh’Prelleon: Yes and yes if you want to, we can also do it in your
tank. ::Then she went to explain::: When we brought Sarek to the
Isolation ward for the re-aging we used a portable fishtank and
Sarek said it feels like he was flying.
Sarek: Yes! Bestest friend promised to let Sarek see more of the
Cawnee later! Sarek remembers!
Lystra: That’s going to be a sight to see. How long do you think
it will take for you to reroute Sarek’s pathways? Will you have to
do surgery on him?
Sh’Prelleon: Very good that you remember Sarek. ::She nodded to
the dolphin, at least he did not forget new memories, which was
important to notw. She turned her antennae and gaze to Lystra.::
It won't need surgery, but it may take a week or two for the
re-pathing and then a few days for his memories to be back.
Sarek/Lystra: Response
Sh'Prelleon: If you want to ... fly, I will come and get you
tomorrow for your first treatment.
Sarek/Lystra: Response
Sh'Prelleon: Each session will take about half an hour. Is there
anything I can prepare so you are not going to be bored during
that?
Sarek/Lystra: Response
