((Saloon - USS Constitution-B))
S’Jenes: I think that’s why we keep exploring. We’re all just waiting to see what the next surprise is.
T'Seva: Absolutely, and the good surprises make up for the bad ones. That kid and their naming ceremony.
McCray: Kid? Naming ceremony?
Kincaid: ?
S'Jenes: I recall the mission file. The linguistic shift from a juvenile designation to an adult one is a significant milestone for the Kameryans.
T'Seva: We helped out a colony with some farming problems, and there was a Kameryan kid, and they invited us to their naming ceremony. Kameryans have a child name and an adult name, and it was time for them to choose their name. It was very sweet.
McCray: Sounds like some Native tribes in the Old West. Dependin’ on the tribe, you got an adult tame when you did somethin’ that made you stand out.
Kincaid/T’Seva: ?
S'Jenes tilted his head slightly, his expression remaining neutral though his curiosity was piqued.
S'Jenes: A merit-based nomenclature system. It is logical for establishing social standing. Was the "standing out" determined by a specific test or was it a general consensus by the tribal elders?
McCray/Kincaid/T'Seva: ?
S'Jenes took a measured sip of his drink, looking at the group.
S'Jenes: It is a compelling cross-cultural convergence. Despite the light-years of separation, the transition from adolescence into adulthood remains a universal variable requiring recognition.
McCray/Kincaid/T'Seva: ?
S'Jenes: It's just fascinating. There was an old animated film that used to be shown at the academy.. It said "It's a small world after all".. I'd say it's proving to be an even smaller universe.
S'Jenes picked up his drink to sip on.
