(( Bridge - Constitution ))
The idea to send the worker bees to sample the nebula had been
great, it was so much easier than having to fabricate their own
operating arm system to somehow attach to the ship hull. So of
course since Ba'el had the idea, Jalana was going to send her out
to pilot one of them.
Rajel: Well I am not going to send you out there alone. Even if
you are close the nebula is making things act weird. While I don't
expect problems, I'm going to send Dizzy with you. We have two
worker bees after all. T'Seva will make sure that we'll see if
something's wrong.
Ba'el: Oh? ::looks to Ch'Nilmani for a moment before turning back
to Jalana:: I see. I feel better already. ::Smile::
T'Seva: I promise to keep a good eye on you.
Ch'Nilmani :: increduous :: Me?
Rajel: ::laughing:: Do we have two Dizzy now? Of course I mean
you. Come on you two get ready to head out. I suggest do to a
quick test while you are still inside to get familiar with the
controls.
Ba'el: ::Standing up:: Okey Dokey. ::Looks over to CH'Nilmani::
Shall we?
Ch'Nilmani: ::standing :: You heard the boss. Let's go see if we
can do donuts in worker bees.
T'Seva: Be careful out there.
Ch'Nilmani: :: joking :: I'll try not too.
Jalana eyed the Andorian for a moment, he better not be not
careful out there. She had no time to break in a new First Officer
already. But for now she had work to focus on.
Rajel: ::Looking to T'Seva:: While they prepare the bees get those
tests with the probes done so we can focus on the bee after that.
T'Seva: Probes are prepared. I'm going to launch two probes and
have them station keep...
The lift closed, and Dizzy and Ba'el were gone. Jalana nodded to
T'Seva, listening to her plan.
T'Seva: Then change position. My theory is that something about
the dynamic energy in the nebula is causing increased interference
when relative velocity and/or location change.
Rajel: That would give us something to work with, however not
beneficial when we have to move out there. Velocity isn't much of
the problem but the location might be.
T'Seva: Isolating one from the other is challenging, but I intend
to try. Probes launched.
Jalana flipped slightly in her beanbag chair to look at the
screen. The interference made it hard to see but she could see the
probes shooting outwards.
T'Seva: Close station keeping, and we get a good signal. Now I am
going to move the right hand probe...see...I almost lost.
The Trill leaned forward a small frown on her spotted forehead.
Rajel: What exactly are you trying now?
T'Seva: Doing my best to change velocity without impacting
distance. Ack...really did almost lose it.
Rajel: That sounds like it more difficult to isolate one of the
parameters than it looks.
T'Seva: I might be able to do something to compensate. I'm going
to let the experiment run so we can focus on the bees.
Jalana hrmmmed slightly though the mention of the worker bees had
her perk up.
Rajel: Have they left yet?
T'Seva: Response
And there they were, visible between all the interferences, small
bright yellow and arrow head shaped. Well very primitive arrows
heads.
Rajel: Let's make sure to keep them on our sensors as much as we
can. I don't want to lose them out there.
T'Seva: Response
T'Aven: Sir, I believe one of the planetsite teams is attempting
to hail.
Jalana almost jumped. With how quiet the Vulcan had been this
whole time she had forgotten that she was still there. .oO By my
spots, that startled me Oo.
Rajel: Put it on speaker.
Comms: =/\= <crackle> ...ax.. <pop> on... a..
<crack> ear <popfizz> ...u... =/\=
Jalana furrowed her brows slightly as she tried to understand what
had been said there.
Rajel: Could you make any of this out? You sure it's from our
team?
T'Seva: Response
T'Aven: It is coming from the planet on our subspace comms. But
negative on the comprehension, Sir. The connection is too spotty
to make out more than a few sounds.
Rajel: Well it's more than we got before. They must have put the
signal enhancer up. Open the channel.
The Vulcan pressed the buttons to open the comm link and nodded
once as a signal.
Rajel: =/\= We barely hear you, but receive. =/\=
It took a moment before there was another series of crackles and
fizzes, hisses and pops. But this time Jalana couldn't even make
up single sounds. She wrote in Trill under her breath, of course.
T'Seva: Response
T'Aven: ::inclining her head.:: The interference must be too
strong for one enhancer. I suggest to place out one or two from
our side.
T'Seva: Response
T'Aven: We send an enhancer out and when the signal gets weaker
hold it in that position and send out another to serve as a
piggyback between the enhancer near us and the one on the surface.
It may be possible to lengthen the signal like that to enable
communications.
T'Seva: Response
Rajel: Hearing how distorted it is we still would not be able to
beam the teams in an emergency but we could at least communicate
basic messages.
T'Seva: Response
Rajel: Alright let's do that. T'Seva focus on the bees, what is
their status? T'Aven, get on the enchancers.
The Vulcan nodded and turned around once more to access the
inventory and the location of where they were stored, before she
got up from her seat and left the bridge.
T'Seva: Response
