The Jefferies tubes were the best. They were not so open so it was
easier for his vines to sense what they were touching, and it was quiet
enough that the conversations and gabbing of the other engineers did not
distract. The senior engineers like to send him in too since his
tendrils could get to places their hands couldn't which saved them from
having to dismantle layers to fix things.

Ensign Motha was in the process of stalking up on more parts when the
Phylosian heard his name called.

Shimisi: All right, Motha, S'Rrrrell, I want you to get to Deck 7 sensor
monitoring and deck 33, sensor maintenance. From those two positions,
you can check first hand if there's any problem and work on it. If we
need something modified or calibrated, you'll be on site to do so.

Motha did the equivilent of a sigh that resembled a slight shake of his
leaves and gently placed the parts he had been collecting inside him
back on to the table where he was reaching.

S'Rrrrell already looked like they were ready to go. Just like a feline
to be.

S'Rrrrell: Underrrstood.

Motha: As you wish.

Stepping out onto the hallway next to Motha they moved to the next lift
in silence. Once inside they step back against the wall. Not too close
or their tail would be squished.

S'Rrrrell: Deck 7. ::The lift started off. They didn't look at their
roommate and fellow engineer when they spoke.:: Any idea what's going on?

Well. Maybe they were not ready to go as much as Motha had hoped.

Motha: Did you not hear what the Commander was saying? You were the
closest and I assumed with those ears...

S'Rrrrell: ::Their voice dripped of sarcasm.:: No, the Seed placerrrs
werrre so exciting I did not hearrr any of it.

Motha: I was in a jefferies tube fixing things. The fact that we needed
the sensors looked at again is not an expected event.

S'Rrrrell: Helpful as everrr. ::They rolled their eyes, with a slight
twitch of their ears and tail.:: I guess we will see when we get therrre.

Motha: It appears so.

The turbolift continued humming as the two remained quiet. Enemies? No.
They were roommates and had gotten to the point that they did not have
to talk a lot to say something. Motha was pretty sure S'Rrrrell, even
for his silence, was irritated that he did not understand what was going
on and they knew that Motha was anxious about being thrown into
something he had not clue about.

(( Sensor Room - Deck 7 - USS Constitution-B ))

The walk through the corridor was quiet. There weren't anyone else in
the hallways which made Motha even more anxious. Had something happened?
If his memory had not failed him, wasn't the Sensor nodes on deck 7
already service two weeks ago? They wouldn't get general maintenance for
another two weeks unless there was a fault report. Motha didn't see any
fault report.

They reached the door that led into the small sensor suite and tapped
his security code in. It wasn't a high risk area but they didn't want
just any person in there. The room was not that large, it mostly housed
the large computer system that connected directly to the sensor array.
It was the closest they would get besides climbing into the
superstructure. Motha keyed in his pass code to bring up the maintenance
screen.

Motha: You think something damaged the sensors? That is why the command
has requested us to look at it?

Ss'Rrrrell: response

Motha:  I was just attempting to extrapolate from what we know. ::
checking sensor with a bit of a shock :: Look at this! The sensors are
awash. What are we in an ion storm or something

Ss'Rrrrell: response
