Stapledon: Cobbler.... Klingon boots... hm.. I wonder if I could wear those as part of my uniform instead of the Federation issue boots. ::She finished her bloodwine and said:: Wow! This is totally my first time working on a starship!

Kvash: You will do just fine on the Connie.

Stapledon: Thanks! ::Suddenly feeling slightly buzzed and emboldened:: So if you write books about sin worlds does that mean you visit them a lot?

Oh, the human was definitely drunk.

Kvash: On the boots, no. Honor sashes are allowed as a religious concession, but they won't let me wear decent boots. On the sin worlds, I have been to some of them, and I have also studied the station here, which has some interesting areas.

Stapledon: Oh.. Is it scary?

Kvash: Nah. Unless you are in Orion space, where the rules a very different and you'll get into a knife fight if you mis-step...the thing about most sin worlds is they're very carefully generating the *illusion* of danger.

Stapledon: ?

Kvash: You might lose a lot of money in a casino or to a dishonest prostitute...or an honest one if your tastes are expensive...but real danger scares off the tourists. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Stapledon: ?

Kvash: Gambling, yes. I'm bad at it, though. The other, no...I'm not big into one night stands of any kind.

Stapledon: ?

Kvash: It's not all about that, though. Most of these planets have areas of natural beauty where you can get lost, they have oceans, there's all kinds of things you can do that aren't risking your money.

Of course, *that* was typically how people got hurt on resort worlds. Getting lost hiking, drowning while canoeing, other kinds of accidents.
