((OOC: To avoid this mail becoming a kilometer long I will summarize what is being brought to Jalana's attention instead of bringing in all the tags, up to a certain point. ))

((Paoike Colony, Plaza, Drever IV - timeskip))

Jalana nodded and then turned around. She was small, real small, and did not see everyone. She hummed slightly and looked around before finding a few crates. She grabbed one to place it on top of two others and then climbed up on it, now hovering over the group. She placed her thumb and middle finger together, putting them into her mouth and a moment later a loud and sharp whistle called for attention.

Rajel: Thank you for all your work so far and coming here on short notice. In that short time here we went through quite a lot so I want an update from the teams.

Ch'Nilmani: And I'm glad to see all of you are still together after our exciting adventure in the downpour.

Rajel: I'll start then. We found mushrooms inside the old power plant that seem to have sucked in radiation, storing it. I took samples of the mushrooms and the soil around them. I'll pass them on to science to analyze and then double check with soil samples from the village to see if this radiation might be a reason for the issues with the plants.

Yirah: Our tricorders didn't pick up any sources of radiation where we were scanning.

Tagus: That’s consistent with my previous scans as well. I didn’t come across radiation until we got to the older buildings.

Yirah: What was the power plant built to run on? Nuclear?

Savok: If the mushrooms could feed on non-ionizing radiation, any power generation method could provide some type of electromagnetic radiation the fungi could absorb.

Ada: ::To the science officers:: I'll join you to confer. ::To the group:: Also, hi everyone. I'm back, but more on that later.

Jalana smiled in Azura's direction. She was glad to see her back and seemingly better, she'd have to check on her later. Later, everything as later right now.

Rajel: Now we don't know if that is the reason or a reason, or has any relation at all. It is possible that there are several reasons working together as well. So has anyone else found anything that might be at least in part responsible or is a lead? Don't be shy, anything no matter how small could add to the plant death.

Jalana listened to people speak up, they were kind enough to not talk over each other so it was easy to follow. that was one of these things that came in handy from her training as a doctor, getting information from various sides, processing, remembering. Having all theories thrown at her one after the other helped her to get an idea of what was going on here.

There were of course the radiactive fungi that may have formed either with radiation from the old powersource, or as Savok said being feeding on non-ionized radiation. While the soil in the colony did not show signs of radiation according to scans Indrid and Kiamon did, it may be possible that they still had another substance flow back into the soil.

Then there were puffballs, plans that seemed to not be affected and maybe immune. It would be good to figure out if there was any substance that was found in other plants but not in puffballs and vice versa, it was possible that they held a secret to solving this. The plants of the Kameryan family were mentioned and could have an impact if brought into this new environment from what she understood.

Regrettably the child of that family had suddenly fallen sick and it could be related to the plants dying, or not. She couldn't just assume that it was the plant's fault, it may not be, so someone had to check on that. Compare a hopefully healthy parent to the child's scans, maybe they had traces of whatever was in the plant in their body, or they had a vulnerability to something - for example the fungus - as was suggested. If Kameryans were vulnerable to that, comparing to scans of other inhabitants could maybe help.

T'Ama mentioned a change of shipping company which could mean that that company had introduced something new to the colony. It could be pesticides, certain products or even the energy from whatever power source their ship had been operated with. It could be a lot. So one would have to look at this. Ba'el also mentioned a crash ship of the Kameryan family, maybe this was another potential cause.

Jalana exhaled slightly nodding along as she listened. So many possible causes and it could be all of it, nothing or one of them. They would have to analyze all these areas. So she would have to split the teams again to take care of that. And then - looking around the colony - they needed to help with repairs. The hailstorm and that panicked creature had put a good number on it. Maybe someone else was injured.

Shimisi: I'm no expert on plant life or fungi, but Fungi tend to operate at a lower temperature than average humanoid ones. However, if these particular ones can survive inside a mammal life form, it could be quite dangerous. Right?

Tagus: If it’s all the same, I’d like to offer the use of my lab and see if we can make some progress

Rajel: Thank you Kiamon. ::She addressed the group.:: The radioactive fungi were only found within one area behind locked doors in the basement of the old power plant on the fringes of the colony. The location where we found the fungi was closed up and had not been opened for a long time it was overgrown, at least five year worth of moss and other plant matter. So nobody got in to get these fungi itself. As Kiamon and Indrid confirmed there was no radiation around here when scanning the area but it is of course possible that they are still pushing another substance through the colony which may cause these hotspots Kim mentioned.

Ch’Nilmani/Science Officers/Anyone: response

Tagus: I have several samples to use for comparison as well. All recorded by date and location. Perhaps we can identify a pattern that I didn’t see before.

Ba'el: :: looking towards Tagus:: Should we collect a sample from the Kameryans as well? It might provide some additional insight.

Rajel: I believe we can get medical and science to work together here. Give me a moment with that I'll let you know once we got all the theories collected.

Tagus: Response

Shimisi: Maybe Mr. Yasam might have data or samples of old spores or fungus... You might want to ask him, though he claims to not like crowds...

Science Officers/Anyone: response

T’Ama: I think we will want to try to find some of the goods or crates that we know are from recent deliveries and take samples to test. And secondarily check out the landing site for the same. Oh! And run everything we find through the mycellium - it might be transforming something we think is innocuous into something the plants can’t deal with.

Shimisi: I thought about that too. So, checking the original ship that brought it here might be useful.

Tagus: response

Jalana looked to the other Trill.

Rajel: What do you mean?

Tagus: response

Rajel: Ah, then it is quite likely that this crashed ship has nothing to do with the plants dying. If they have been here for six years it would have shown up earlier. And as it is not a ship from the delivery service, that won't give us answers there either. Do I have that right?

Tagus: response

Jalana nodded, glad that he had a connection to this colony, providing some information they did not have themelves.

Shimisi: :: To Stapledon :: Anything you found out while I was out of comission?

Stapledon: Response

Anyone: response

Rajel: Alright unless someone has something else for this already quite extensive list of possibilities - great work on that everyone! - let's get to tasks!

Anyone: response

Rajel: Alright First. Indrid, Azura and Kiamon. I want you to have a look at these radioactive mushrooms and soil samples that we took. Compare them to the samples from throughout the colony, and these puffballs that were found. Check if there is any substance that is present in one but no the other. And compare the concentration of it to the location of the hotspots Kimberly mentioned. Maybe that way we can figure out what exactly we are dealing with.

Yirah/Ada/Tagus: response

Rajel: Kiamon, since you came after the issue had already started, check with this Mister Yasam if he has any data or samples of old plantlife from before the issue showed up.

Tagus: response

Rajel: Alright next. Ellie, Ba'el and ...::What was the name again she had heard it earlier.:: Jora? I want you two to go check on the the child. Not only to make sure they get better, but compare their scans with those of their parents. And with those of the other inhabitants, just in case they are sensitive to something other people aren't. I only met one Kameryan before and that never came up.

Malyz: I scanned a good potion of the inhabitants. I'll transfer the data to you, Doc.

Park/Jora/Ba'el: response

Rajel: T'Ama and Laria. Could you check on more information about this shipping company? Sir Bolen should have information about who they are, what they brought, cargo lists and such. If he may not know, ask his valet Jarl, he seems to know pretty much everything going on around Bolen's business. Also check with him where the Delivery ship usually lands to see if that area is more affected or not, just in case. If there is anything that may have an impact on what is happening here I'm sure you'll find it.

T'Ama/Herren: response

Rajel: T'Seva and Mingxing. While Kiamon said that the crashed shuttle will is not related to the plants and has been here quite a while, I would like you to head out and check on it. From what I understand going by the data we got. It is several hours outside the colony so have the ship beam you over to it and back. Check if there is any sign on why the ship crashed and if the ship can be repaired and maybe you can find anything useful in the cargo they had to left. If they have more of the crops even in seed form in the ship, we may be able to use them to compare them with the sick plants.

T'Seva/Stapledon: response

Rajel: Savok and Evria. I want to know if this mycorrhizal network is wide spread and strong enough to possibly distribute an antidote once we figure out what is causing this. Do some more scans and analysis of the area, determine if we have a good enough vein for entry nearby. You can do that from here or use the ship's scanners, the more certain you are the better. That way we can put a solution in action the moment we know what's wrong.

Savok/Evria: response

Rajel: Alright, I know there are a few names I have not called, but we have more work to do. The hailstorm and the panicked creature rampaging have done some damage to the colony. Those of you who were not called by name, and me, we will help with that. Look around, find the structures that are broken to help with the repairs. Lystra you are overlooking that team and keep an overview who needs more repairs.

Lystra/Anyone: response

Rajel: ::She looked around:: Kimberly. I noticed some of the houses lost power, it's possible that the power supply was damaged, so I want you go grab Commander Ch'Nilmani and check those out fix it if you can. If you can make it safer for the future I won't stop you.

Stapledon/Ch'Nilmani: response

Rajel: If you have medical knowledge help those that were injured, I'll be on your team.

Anyone: response

Rajel: Well then. ::She raised the PADD in her hand, all kinds of reports had been sent in and one of them stood out. She raised both her brows and held it out do Diz'mim. Saying quietly, giving him the 'you think what I'm thinking' look.:: Check this out.

Ch'Nilmani: response

Jalana smiled and nodded slightly before taking the PADD back and looking out over the assembled group.

Rajel: Before you leave, I have one more piece of official business to do. Indrid!

Yirah/Anyone: response

Rajel: I have received a report that you were in direct line when Ellie was in danger. You didn't hesitate and together with Evria jumped into the trenches to make sure she was safe. Thank you for that. In combination with your impressive work for the Science Department since you have come aboard I see no reason why we should wait any longer. ::She paused and then shrugged slightly.:: And we can hardly send an Ensign with two Commanders to work on this thing.

Okay that was a lie, rank didn't matter for that, but it sounded amusing enough. Those that had been around for longer would definitely have figured out what she was doing, some may not but they would hear any moment.

Yirah/Anyone: response

Rajel: Due to your exemplary work, I hereby promote you to Lieutenant Junior Grade with all responsibilities and privileges. It was not on my list so I do not have a pip right now but we'll get that to you later. ::she grinned:: It's still very much binding. Congratulations Lieutenant Indrid Yirah!

Yirah/Anyone: response

Rajel: Well then that's it, let's get to work! As soon as we have something palpable contact me so we can help these people. Dismissed everyone!

Anyone: response
