OOC: Let’s try this again, shall we! Maybe I’ll get it right this time.
(( USS Icarus - Deck 3))
McCray/Montanari: Response
Yirah: If Frank is here, I wonder where the captain is?
Rajel: They might be here too and not able to communicate, or anywhere else on the ship trying to find out what happened. In the best case there is. ::She offered Indrid a brief nod and smile as the console unlocked.:: There you go all yours.
McCray: Apparently, the Captain hasn’t been seen since right before the last jump. That’s the one they said went haywire.
Rajel: Well worst case.. we don't know yet where they have been and what they experienced. But coming back with an immediate power failure could be that they were attacked. That's why we have to check the logs.
Yirah: I don't see any logs that show that they were attacked. Although it could be that the data was corrupted.
Rajel: Do you think those tribbles got anything to do with it? ::She asked with a little grin. Wouldn't be the first time Tribbled had caused chaos on a ship.:: Or is that just an unrelated incident?
Yirah: From the looks of this security log, they seem to have caught the infestation in its early stages.
Rajel: Anything from Frank about what he remembers?
McCray: He said before the last jump, everything was nominal, but it’s a blur after that.
Yirah: Maybe if we--
Yirah: Spots! What is going on!?
Rajel: What in the caves... This can't be one of ours. Blaine... ::She hoped he had his phaser ready just in case, but also hoped it wasn't needed::
As she door was melted away someone entered. Large and dark and vaguely a person. Jalana's eyes widened slightly. Sheliak? What was a Sheliak doing here? She had never met one in person but she had read enough reports to know when she saw one... two. There was another but then her eyes fell on the third and her stomach plummeted into the lowest point of her body. While there was some kind of protection around them, clearly like an EVA suit to provide them with the atmosphere they needed, the symbol on it -much like the starfleet symbol on theirs- identified them clearly as Tholian. That and their unique physique. Well sh-
Snlpkg: Organic infestations, you have been found in violation of the Treaty of Algeron article III, Section 5, subsection 13, paragraph 4. Your metaweapon will be confiscated as evidence.
Blaine nodded to Jalana, keeping his hand near his phaser yet making sure he was not making any threatening gestures. He didn’t know much about the Sheliak, or Tholians, for that matter, except what he had learned at the Academy. Extremely literal, extremely litigious, and in the wrong cases, an extreme pain in the hind parts. But if they could be reasoned with, they weren’t THAT bad – at least that’s what his Academy professors had said, but he wondered if they had actually dealt with them...
Lesatine: There are four of them.
As he listened, he realized that one of the Tholians? had counted four, not three. They could see Frank.
Snlpkg: Organic pests, hiding is useless we will find you. You will all be arrested.
Yirah: A more accurate designation for myself is Indrid Yirah. What should I address you as, Sheliak closest to me?
Blaine stepped up opposite of Yirah, flanking the three figures. He stood loosely but ready. Not overtly displaying a threat, but putting himself in a position where he could protect Jalana. His left eyebrow raised in inquisitiveness as he tried to figure out what the Sheliak and Tholians were doing together. He kept his mouth shut as he formulated what was happening in this moment.
Snlpkg: response
Yirah: Procurator, we can not be arrested on suspicion alone. What investigation has led you to hypothesize that this ship carries a metaweapon?
Jalana really believed that she should be the one to talk with them, but fussing over this in front of the introders might cause problems. Indrid was the Scientist in the team, so if anyone could understand how this ship was suddenly a weapon, maybe it was him. She really hoped this wouldn't come back bite her in the ass. She exchanged a brief look with Blaine. For now shooting would be a bad idea, but they needed to be careful.
Blaine caught the look from Jalana, the look that read NO PHASERS YET. oO Got it. Ask questions first and maybe there’s no shooting. Oo
McCray: That is one reason we are here, to contact the ship and examine it. But, the question I have is how could a ship violate a treaty that is fifty years into the future for it? The architecture of this ship alone identifies it as a ship of its era. Logically, the Treaty of Algeron could not apply to it.
Snlpkg: response
Yirah: This ship was launched in the Federation year of 2267. The Treaty of Algeron was signed in the Federation year of 2311. That makes this ship older than the Treaty of Alergon by 44 standard Federation years. The Federation has not had access nor contact with this ship in 130 years. Therefore, this ship has not been able to be assessed by the Federation for any violations of the Treaty of Algeron until this day.
Jalana smiled slightly hearing Indrid. This more confident attitude suited him well.
Indrid’s confidence was bleeding over into Blaine now. He seemed to stand a bit straighter, shoulders back. Internally, he was still scared out of his mind, and he hoped he was doing the right thing. What was that John Wayne quote? oO Oh yeah, ‘Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway’ Well, let ‘er buck. Oo
McCray: We are bound by the Treaty, and continue to be committed to it. That is why we are here. We mean no harm and we look after our own… A trait I believe we share with your people.
Snlpkg: response
Yirah: Procurator, the Federation remains committed to the Treaty of Algeron.
Rajel: He is correct. The treaty was not violated and we are as committed as ever.
McCray: We are happy to clear up this misunderstanding.
Snlpkg/Yirah: response
Rajel: I am Commodore Jalana Rajel. Commanding Officer of the USS Con- no wait we are currently using the Aleek-Om.
Snlpkg/Yirah: response
Blaine clocked her glancing at the PADD and turned it so that she could read it but their new friends could not – not even mentally questioning if they could read Federation Standard.
Rajel: Our usual ship is undergoing repairs. Anyway. Indrid here was correct, the ship is older than that.
McCray: Far older. Roughly fifty Terran years.
Snlpkg/Yirah: response
Rajel: Right the fourth. I can assure you that we did not cause his invisibility. It is not cloaking technology and we are currently working on finding out what caused it.
Blaine would know what to do if they had come in disruptors blazing, but he realized in this moment that he wasn’t as equipped to be a diplomat as Starfleet Academy probably hoped he had been. He tried to remember what his mother’s father would do, but bureaucrats weren’t really diplomats either. All he could do was to support his superiors, and he was determined to do that.
Snlpkg/Yirah: response
Rajel: I do hope that cleared up any misunderstanding. Will be acceptable that we continue trying to find out the cause of all this?
Was it Blaine’s imagination, or was this actually working? He honestly didn’t know, but he was relying on his Vulcan training to keep his emotions well and truly in check and his mind clear. There had to be a way to deal with this logically.
Snlpkg/Yirah/Rajel: response
Blaine hoped that Frank was as calm as Jalana and Indrid. He felt himself begin to – not relax or let his guard down – was it hope?
Snlpkg/Yirah/Rajel: response
He put his faith in his CO and in Indrid. They were far more experienced than him, and all he had to do was keep his cool and back whatever play they made. He could do this.
