Looking around the room, Perax wasn’t sure where to go. He had already danced. He felt his stomach rumble and realized all he had eaten was a single slice of a sandwich. So he moved back toward the food table and picked up a plate.
Shedet: Hey there.
He looked up, and saw a woman walking toward him. In the dim lighting it took him a moment to realise that she was an Orion. He had heard of the species, both as a civilian freighter engineer and in passing at the Academy, but he didn’t know much other than the trend of their species toward piracy, smuggling, and crime racketeering, though he figured if she could get into Starfleet, she probably showed more integrity than the Orions that the freighter crews whispered about.
Perax: Hi, I’m Leran Perax.
Shedet: Shedet of Capital. Nice to meet you. You new?
oO of Capitol? So she’s from Earth? Oo
((OOC: I know it’s a different word))
Perax: I’ve been onboard for a little while, not very long though. I work with the warp engine systems mostly, though I will go anywhere I’m needed.
A piece of chocolate cake caught his eye, and he cut a piece to his cake. He wasn’t ashamed to admit that he was a chocoholic.
Shedet: I'm in Science now but used to be in Engineering. Network specialist. I was the one who clamored around the Jefferies tubes replacing isolinear chips and troubleshooting node dumps.
Perax: I’ve done that in the area around main engineering. We had to adjust the programming for environmental controls for our Cardassian guests. ::he looked surprised at himself for saying “Cardassian” with only a slight edge, but not the full anger of a few days ago.:: So what do you do in science?
Shedet: I'm most general science now. Like you, floating whereever I'm needed.
Perax: ::he nodded:: I might not be the best at everything, but I find I gain more experience that way.
Shedet: You always been in Engineering?
Perax: Ever since I was twelve.
Shedet: response
He smiled at her reaction, then explained
Perax: I worked on my parent’s freighter. I got the basic skills to enter the Academy there. Of course working on an aging freighter and working on a refitted Galaxy Class starship are not much the same.
Shedet:
Perax: Um, how did you enter Starfleet?
He used the opportunity of asking her to tell her story to take a bite of some chocolate cake.
Shedet: response
