((Main Sickbay – USS Constitution-B))
Cade had no strong feelings on holodecks. He knew some people loved them, and some people hated them – and many people like him would go if invited but didn’t go out of his way to be in a holodeck. At least not for recreational activities.
Duty related activities were more common and generally less overwhelmingly … hologrammy. Immersive might be a better word if he thought about it for a while.
Foster: Nah. I won’t avoid holodecks, but I’m old enough to appreciate real life rather than simulated stories. But I’m also not gonna begrudge any holodeck fans. ::he looked at her:: What’s your take on them?
Zh'raalil: I only used the holodeck a couple of times, outside of the academy programs that is, but I'm exited to get the chance for more. There is an endless possibility for things to experience there. But I understand what you mean, the real world shouldn't be disregarded just because we have a holodeck. Lots of interesting things happening here as well.
He nodded in agreement.
Foster: Fair. They are useful, I can’t begrudge that.
He worked with a quiet focus for a few moments, watching the data come through beautifully.
Zh'raalil: Is there anything specific that you can recommend on the Starbase?
Tipping his head Cade thought about that.
Foster: The Night Garden is a café and teahouse that does exquisite little sandwiches, and it’s always twilight in the gardens. Very relaxing and lovely. And the Arcade is a good time, they have all sorts of challenging games that you can pit yourself against your friends in tests of skill or reflex or trivia… whatever tickles your fancy.
He chuckled a bit, thinking about the balance board game they had – little surfboards that moved in time with a pre-set course. He had been younger the last time he had tried it and still lost. In hid defense he was playing against an Andorian twenty years his junior and he knew full well the Andorians had some exquisite balance owing to their antennae.
He figured Ensign Zh'raalil might be very good at the game.
Zh'raalil: But shore leave aside for now, how's the scann going?
He checked and smiled.
Foster: In short – very good! Your scan matches your academy exit scan within .05% of variance, that’s excellent. Now it’s the formality of whether you have any medical concerns you wanted to touch base with me on?
Zh'raalil: ?
Foster: It’s fine if you don’t have any. I’m required to ask, I never know the full story of someone until I ask.
His eyes sparkled, there was a bit of wisdom from the old man.
Zh'raalil: ?
Foster: Then, Ensign, I am officially clearing you for duty! Congratulations and welcome onboard!
Zh'raalil: ?
He chuckled, offering her a hand up from the biobed.
Foster: Now you get to go do fun things! Unpack, explore the facilities on the ship or on the starbase, make friends, get lunch – the ship is your oyster.
He had a whole host of old sayings which fit him like an old glove, no matter how outdated they were.
Zh'raalil: ?
