(( First Officer's Office ))

Cade was feeling well and fully pleased with himself as he watched Akeelah walk.  Pleased with himself and immensely proud of her.  He felt that balanced out well enough, a little bit of ego fluffing and a whole lot of praise and support.

He was pleased that Serok was available, too.  He had his eye on the Vulcan therapist who this very purpose since he came onboard, and being Mission specialist gave him some nice perks, like full access to the crew roster.  The man’s credentials were impressive, his track record with difficult patients was impeccable and his demeanor was exactly what his clever and sometimes manipulative patient needed.

He appreciated her cleverness, it was one of the many reasons they were friends.  But that cleverness which made her a fantastic conversational companion was also a horrific drawback when assigning sweet, empathic standard medical officers to put her through physical therapy.

He smiled gently as he approached, noting her professional, reserved, ‘on duty’ demeanor.

D'Sena: Cade. Thank you for coming.

Foster: And how was your time with Serok?

To his credit he didn’t indulge in a smirk.  Oh but he wanted to.  He could already tell by the expression on her face how utterly effective Serok was.  How much she didn’t like it, but she did like the results.  And Cade supported her and those results.  The way she was moving was nothing less than miraculous.

D'Sena: He was merciless. I am sure you knew why you assigned me into his care.

Foster: I was most fortunate to catch his arrival and have him available.  I had my eye on him as soon as he came onboard.  I figured he would withstand your abundant charms.

His blue eyes twinkled, mixing a bit of well-earned flattery with that touch of well-earned admonishment.  Akeelah was also charming, and again that was something that made her a wonderful conversational companion and a highly frustrating patient.

D'Sena: I can't disagree. He called me out on my bullcrap just like you would like it. But it was worth it.

Foster: So I can see ::he made a flourish at her, the way she was standing confidently, the way she had walked here on her own:: You carry your success well!  ::he looked towards Saveron’s office:: You ready for this?

His tone was softer, understanding how much this meant for her.  He had been in her shoes.  Not with paralyzed legs, but having the opportunity to crawl himself out of a self-dug hole with the express purpose to go save someone he loved and to right a terrible wrong.

He knew the dread at wondering if what he had done was too little, too late.

He had been allowed to go, it was his first sober mission.  The first and every one after following an upwards climb.  And he did save friends.  Not everyone, but he cherished the ones he still had.

And he was an impossible, unpleasant alcoholic wreck.  She was a gorgeous, strong, charming officer who had been hurt by another.  He would be shocked if she was dismissed.

But the answer might be ‘Yes, but…’

He only hoped that Saveron could find a compromise that gave her the ability to act without putting herself into too much danger.

D'Sena: I am. I hope he'll permit me to join.

Foster: I think you have a good case.  ::He paused and turned towards her:: Just remember, you may need to compromise.  And that’s not bad.  I want you safe and being able to act.  And I think we can find a way.

He smiled, memories rolling around in his brain of missions past, friends long gone.  He had one person who supported him even if he didn’t deserve it.  And he had it his goal to support others who did deserve it.  Maybe even give faith to someone who didn’t seem like they deserved it, but there was worth hidden within them.

With those words of wisdom, Akeelah nodded and rang the chime on the door.

Saveron: response

D'Sena: Commander. Thank you for meeting me. I came to request my participation in the mission to retrieve Commodore Rajel, Sir.

He hung back for now, allowing her to speak.  This was her desire, and her request.  He would support her if she needed, but for now he let her take the lead.

Saveron: response

D'Sena: Positive. I have worked on recovery for a long time and asked Commander Foster for assistance to bring me back to my feet for this mission. That is why I asked him to join me for this conversation, as my doctor. He will be more suitable in explaining it and assess my progress shall you need it.

Cade nodded.  Yes, he was here to give his professional opinion.  And personal opinion.  And he was in support of this.  This had been enough incentive for her to do what she could not do for so long.  The thing that removed the final roadblock.  He believed that denying her would cause a terrible backslide, far worse than the rsk of the mission.

Saveron: response

He nodded towards Saveron and offered a concise PADD of medical information over.

Foster: After the primary surgery all of her nerves were repaired, but mobility was still impaired due to her Rodulan physiology and the intensive connections between the Rodulan brain and the nervous system.

Saveron/D’Sena: ?

He straightened, not only presenting himself a bit more professionally – as if Saveron would be swayed by such displays – but focusing himself to the matter at hand.

Foster: Commander D’Sena has routinely attended all scheduled physical therapy sessions.  ::The edges of his mouth tugged upwards:: Even when she didn’t want to.  This growing strength and baseline mobility allowed a fairly unorthodox treatment of nerve hyperstimulation.

Saveron/D’Sena: ?

He nodded and fixed his gaze on Saveron directly.

Foster: That, coupled with the mission motivation was the breakthrough she needed.  It allowed her to repoen that neural connection with the nerves and regain mobility control.

Saveron/D’Sena: ?
