(( Sick Bay - ICU Bay ))
Sheana and Jalana stepped into the room and approached the bed.
They both had a reason to be here and check on Ba'el though to
differing degrees. Sherana did see the women as a comrade, maybe
even a friend, for Jalana it went beyond that to a crew member as
well as being part of her ship family.
Rajel: How are you feeling, Ba'el?
Sherana: Were you hit in the attack?
Ba'el: ::To Jalana:: I'm feeling better now, thank you. ::To
Sherana:: My Work Bee pod was damaged and I was forced to eject
without a suit and returned to the ship the hard way.
Sherana nodded, satisfied with that answer, but Jalana did not
seem to be done with her line of questioning.
Rajel: Shouldn't be much longer then. ::She nodded slightly and
then crossed her arms.:: Now that I know you're okay... what were
you thinking??
Ba'el: ::Sitting up straighter:: I was thinking like the Starfleet
officer I was trained to be at the academy. Trained to make quick
decisions when seconds counted the most, and there was no time to
waste.
Rajel: Did neither of you two consider to use the arms of Dizzy's
worker bee to tow you off instead of risking your life?
Ba'el: It was considered and ::holding up a hand to forestall
Jalana's response:: disregarded. The manipulators did not have the
dexterity for such a delicate task. One small mistake and I would
have suffered crushed limbs, and possible become entangled with
the grapplers which would have resulted in my death.
Jalana was about to interject when Ba'el raised her hand
anticipating that and spoke on.
Rajel: I did not mean to literally tow _you_ off but your bee.
That wouldn't be delicate at all. If it can handle the containers
it can handle grabbing the arm of the other bee. ::She pinched the
bridge of her nose.:: But let's just assume that was for some
reason not possible. There was really no other option?
Ba'el: Commander Ch'Nilmani and I had no other options and time
was running out quickly. So we adapted, we improvised and we
overcame the obstacles needed to ensure success. It is not, I
grant you, a success wrapped up in a pretty bow, but I and the
Commander both survived.
Jalana took a deep breath, clearly not happy that Ba'el and Dizzy
had both been so reckless, jumping through space without a suit.
But transporters wouldn't have worked at that point anymore for
somethign more complex than the samoles. Extending the shield
bubble neither since shields had not held at all, tractor beams
had been broken as well. There wasn't much left.
Sherana: You did the right thing. It may be a good day to day, but
you don't have to wait for it.
Ba'el: You know, at the academy, I was not on the command track.
Rajel: What do you mean?
Ba'el: On the command track, Cadets are faced with a multitude of
scenarios to test their future potential as leaders. On such test,
the notorious "No Win Scenario" has been a staple of the program
for over a century. Even in the Empire this kind of test has been
used to mark leadership potential.
Rajel: Yes I heard of those.
Ba'el: As I said, I was not on the command track, and yet this was
my...what was it once called?...Ah yes, the "Kobiyashi Maru". This
was my no win scenario, and yet I found a solution. It wasn't
elegant, but I still stand by my decision.
Rajel: Well believe it or not. I was not on the Command Track
either. Never wanted to be more than a medical officer. ::She
smiled slightly and then took a deep breath.:: Starfleet's every
day life is full of impossible decisions. You made one that could
have cost you your life. But you survived. That's how it happens
sometimes.
Terpes: Well, you certainly set an example as the Commander came
right after you.
Rajel: ::sighs:: Of course he did.
Sherana: Not surprised. Andorians are formidable warriors.
Ba'el: Really?..Huh...guess he really was a mimic targ after all.
Sherana looked to Ba'el, not having heard that expression in a
long time. If she wasn't whos he was she would have laughed about
it. Though her eyes sparkled slightly.
Terpes: He went off easier, probably because the pod was nearer to
the cargo bay, or maybe his speed was faster.
Rajel: Yes maybe. Andorians may be used to the cold but that would
do you little good in space.
After all Oxygen was the first problem. The freezing came much
further down the road. Even after rupturing the lungs, vaporizing
of water and worse, after one was long dead.
Ba'el: ::glances at Maiman:: Still, your arrival was very
fortuitous.
Terpes: I was near, I'm sure anyone with medical knowledge would
have done the same.
Sherana: But you did. Take credit with pride.
Rajel: You still saved them, that's nothing to just do away with.
::She tilted her head.:: Did you need anything? Are we in the way
of your duties?
Terpes: Oh, I was just passing by, after all, she's my chief so
I'm just checking if she needs anything. By the way, do you know
how much time we'll need to be on Tucker station?
Rajel: As long as they need. We will get repairs from the attack
but also upgrades to various systems. Depending on how much that
is it'll take longer or not.
Sherana: How long will Ba'el have to stay here?
Terpes/Ba'el: Response
Rajel: Good. There is a chance that you may have to temporarily
move to the station if the teams do upgrades in a section of the
ship that houses your quarters.
Sherana: ::turning to Ba'el:: Once you are free to leave, we will
visit the station. Maybe they have something of interest for us to
visit.
Terpes/Ba'el: Response
Rajel: I don't know yet if we will have a chance to do a shiny
party but if not this time, then after our next mission. I have
yet to look through all the reports to hand suggestions to HQ. If
you have any, make sure to send them to me so I can consider
them.
Terpes/Ba'el: Response
Rajel: ::stepping forward, she placed her hands on the bed to lean
forward.:: For all the shit I'm giving you for this... I'm glad
you are alive. ::She looked up to Ba'el.:: Very glad. Make sure to
keep it that way.
Ba'el: Response
The Trill nodded and offered Ba'el a smile, one with a worried
look, this had been really close. She straightened up again.
Rajel: I have to get back to it. I'll see you.
Ba'el/Terpes: Response
Sherana nodded slightly and watched the Trill go before turning
back to the women.
Sherana: Did she just say 'shit'?
Ba'el/Terpes: Response
