:: Buggy 4 just had lost their supply cargo pod. That was a
problem. Since Jalana's buggy had passed the swarm already she
stopped the buggy and she had just called the others to let them
know that they would be waiting for the fourth team, while the
rest should continue their way. She knew Seja had an eye on the
others, who were going back to get their cargo pod back. There was
just another problem, the bug swarm was after them. But Jalana
instead of looking at the buggy saw something that might make
things either difficult or easier. She was not quite sure. ::
Rajel: Uhm... this might pose an issue.
:: She pointed ahead to the rock formations to the sides. A rather
big - if not huge - brownish scaled lizard waddled on its four
legs from between the rocks. It was much longer than it was tall -
contrary to the dinosaurs on the holodeck eariler - and its long
tail was dragged behind it through the sand, as if to prepare
furrows for seed and plantlings. A long tongue flickered through
its lips into the air every now and then. It reminded Jalana of
the dune lizards in the Trill Savanna, just darker and a lot
bigger. As if it wasn't enough that it was there, it was heading
towards the fourth buggy. ::
Milsap: Well, the good news is the scanner is workin' fine.
Yito: Lets hope it ignores us.
Rajel: It could be that the bugs are its food? If it works any
like the lizards I know it is trying to locate them with its
tongue.
Yito: So avoid the tongue.
Milsap: All right. So do we try and keep away from it, or is this
one of those things where you gotta keep still and it'll leave you
alone?
Buggy 4 Crew: ?
Rajel: It might be on our side... natural predator lured in by the
sonic sound. ::She paused:: Or it is lured in by the buggy sound..
we won't know for sure until we see it.
Milsap: Might not have to wait long, it's gettin' mighty close to
that buggy.
Lystra: =/\= This is Buggy Four, change your sonic cannons to
frequency 191.27! =/\=
Rajel: Engine is still running, I can head out the second we need
it. Just let me know when.
Yito: I think we should wait see what it does.
Milsap: Uh, Jalana, how good do you figure desert lizards are at
sneakin' around unseen?
Rajel: ::Looking to Jerry:: Depends on the Species, why?
:: She followed the point of Jerry's finger and saw shifting sand,
rising as if something was shifting it upwards when moving inside
the sand. That wasn't good. That wasn't good at all. ::
Milsap: Apparently word got around that it's dinner time.
Rajel: I don't like this.
Yito: It’s not heading for us... It is heading for Buggy 4.
:: The way it snaked around there, aiming straight to the other
group meant that something there was luring it in. But what? The
buggy's movements? The Lizard's stomps and vibration? The sonic
sound? Why didn't they know anything about the lifeforms of this
moon? She curse quietly in Trill, and fought the urge to just hit
the pedal and head back into the swarm. Right now she wasn't the
team leader. ::
Rajel: What now?
Milsap: Response
Yito: We need to go after it. Buggy 4 is a sitting duck.
Rajel: Agreed, we don't know if these creatures are after them or
the bugs.
Milsap: Response
Yito: We have the frequency, we’ll be safe in the swarm.
:: Jalana nodded, turned the wheels and got them moving again. If
they had been on a street, their wheels would have been
screeching. With a slight arc, they turned and were back in the
swarm. The headaches began once more, the high pitched sound
called for it, but then Jalana heard the weapon discharge behind
her and the sound was interrupted. It had some effect on the bugs,
the pattern of the swarm changed for the moment that sonic attack
hit them. ::
Rajel: Are they... disoriented?
Milsap: Response
Yito: It’s turning? Maybe it’s attracted by our new weapon.
Rajel: Either of these options mean that they leave buggy four
alone.
Milsap: Response
:: Jalana's eyes widened as the Lizard's behaviour changed as
well. The tail moved erratically, rising up, falling back down
with a strong vibration through the ground. Sand and dust whirled
into the air, blocking views. That wasn't good. What was going on
right now? ::
Horne: =/\= Horne to away teams. Watch out for the tail. Not
sure if the lizard is targeting us or not but that tail can do
some damage =/\=
:: Weapons were discharged once more. The bug swarm moved in
strange patterns the lizard moved its head from side to another,
the tail swished through the sand. It wasn't really hard to see
that while driving, since both of these events were not only in
eye sight but too big to ignore. As it happened a third time
Jalana realized the pattern and pressed her communication button,
so the teams could hear her. ::
Rajel: =/\= Stop attacking the swarm with sonic! The Lizard is
looking for the bugs, our weapons make it think we are bugs. =/\=
Anyone: ?
:: Jalana had almost forgotten about the other creature under the
sand, just now she noticed the newly accumulated 'hills' around
them in a big circle. .oO Oh shoot! Oo. she thought and just that
moment a snake like reptile shot out of the sand into the air like
a whale out of the ocean, and jumped over the buggies in a 'Free
Willy' Style, opening its mouth and swallowing a few of the bugs
before diving back into the sand. The four legged Lizard let out
an aggressive sound and stomped the sand under it. ::
Rajel: =/\= What the... Buggy Four. Grab your pod, NOW! Don't
attack either of them and hurry up. We need to get out of here!

:: If her theories were right, these lizards would begin to fight
over the bugs and the bugs might become more aggressive due to
being threatened more openly now. They really needed to get away
from them. And if they took care of each other that would be
great, if they were distracted by the buggy teams, that could end
in a massacre. Jalana's driving had gotten them closer to Team 4,
so they could keep an eye out for the creatures while team 4 would
get their pod. ::

Rajel: Seja, keep your eyes on them, only attack if they go for
the buggies.

"Maybe it was a gas leak in the shed."
Her parents' mumbling voices went past Alana, it was all too much for her. Never had she seen a fire like that, and the
pile of ashes in the garden showed how lucky they were that nobody had been inside when it went off. But something felt
wrong with what her brother said. Not the words themselves in the first moment, but seeing their gazes, the looks her
parents shot over to her every now and then. They were full of shock and something else that the little ten year old girl
had never seen before.
