(( Arentis - Weather Control Main Station - Tragis Mountainrange ))

Keeping a planet outside of its natural climate in a perpetual state of winter was a lot of work. One would not think about how much it took to keep this going. Dozens of weather control stations were spread throughout the planet, each covering a certain area, make sure that things we running smoothly. That was until they were not. For some reason they all had stopped creating new snow a week ago. Otherwise it was working fine. So at leat the old snow did not just melt away. That would have been a mess.

A bunch of the Constitution Engineers had been working on figuring out what was wrong and as Jalana had anticipated fixed it rather quickly. She stood in the main control room the heart of the whole operation. That control room was inside a mountain range to be hidden from the sight do not distract the tourists.  Leaning against the wall, she watched the team before her test the system. It was like standing on the bridge in a high action situation but with more people, more screens and many more controls.

Twelve people sat on controls in front of a massive wall with a screen. That screen had dozens of smaller sectioned screens displayed to show the data from the weather network's own stations. A small - though for his species 5 foot tall - Pelian stood on a chair overseeing it all, his eyes wandering over the whole monitor. Jalana didn't speak, just watched for now to not disturb the busy work.

Finally after what felt like an hour of merely watching - even if in reality it was only a quarter of that - the Pelian turned and nodded to Jalana with a big smile on her face.

Trana: Everything is well in order, the repairs are complete.

Rajel: ::smiling:: Wonderful. If you don't mind me asking, what exactly was broken?

Trana: Some components that are responsible for the communication between the station were broken. If the right signals don't get out...

Rajel: ... the stations don't function properly any more.

Trana: Exactly. Your Engineers discovered the issue real quickly and were able to replace the parts.

Rajel: Wonderful, I'm glad to hear that. So now we can enjoy snowfall again. ::She beamed brightly. In fact it had started already, so all was well.::

Trana: Indeed.

Rajel: How old are the parts of your system?

Trana: I've been here for six years and I don't think they were replaced in all that time.

Jalana exhaled and shook her head.

Rajel: Alright. We want to avoid that this happens again, so send your specifications to my ship and I'll see if we can organize spare parts in case anything else breaks. Always good to have a spare.

Trana: Oh you really don't have to do that.

Rajel: ::shrugging:: I want to. It's what we do. ::She grinned:: And it'll be nice to help keep this resort up. I'll let my people know and get out of your way.

Trana and Jalana bid their farewells and she went out back into the cold snow.

(( Ski Lodge ))

Jalana had left the mountain range and took one of the various sleds to get to one of the ski lodges. There were none at the Tragis Mountainrange, that area was for wandering and hiking and the weather control station.

Various animals were used as sledding animals, the ones from Jalana's sled were furry looking... worms. She could not describe it any differently. She didn't know what they were but they slithered through the snow like torpedos. Instead of the usual worm look, they were packed in a warm and fuzzy long hair fur. Fascinating.

Despite her aversion to pants, she had opted in for those in the snow. While warm skirts and tights and the like existed she wanted to ski and that was a bit safer if a skirt did not flutter behind her ready to be caught in branches or fences. So she wore a Ski outfit in various shades of blue, with tight pants that looked thin but were remarkably warm thanks to lining inside, a puffer jacket and a turtleneck sweater underneath.

As they arrived at the lodge Jalana stepped off the vehicle with a smile, she had informed her Engineers of the function of the system and that they were getting system specs to send down spare parts so her work here was done. She could get used to this type of transportation. Approaching the lodge she spotted a few familiar faces. Two of them were the bartender and his daughter throwing snow at each other. A smile washed over her face as she headed inside to warm up.

As she returned from the bar with a hot cup of Jestral tea in her hands she saw that the two had come inside by now. Spotting her, Kincaid didn't lose any time to greet her.

Kincaid: Hey, darlin’. Got a minute?

She was not sure if she would ever get used to hear 'darlin' from someone who wasn't her... well darling. But she knew that Kincaid called pretty much everyone the same.

Tylana: Howdy, Mama Bear!

Now that nickname lured a grin from her face. Mama Bears were ferocious and still cuddly.

Rajel: Hey Ty, hey Elias. Enjoying your time? ::She grinned.:: What can I do for you?

Kincaid: Lookin’ forward ta havin’ some fun. Wanted ta ask ya somethin’ fer Ty here. Seems she has an inklkin’ fer a profession after her recent birthday.

As he looked to Tylana, Jalana turned her attention to the young girl... no woman. Just because Jalana had known her for years didn't mean she didn't grow up.

Tylana: Jalana, I was wonderin’ if’n ya would sponsor my application to tha Academy? And, I’ve heard that some Cadets have been able ta take classes on board tha Cawny, is that true?

At the question her eyes grew slightly and she gave Elias a look. The look of a parents who was surprised to see the child having grown up so fast that it was time for the Academy. Though technically Tylana had been old enough for three years already. That look was short and she looked back to Ty.

Rajel: Yes that is correct. Their training happens on board. During the first year they receive the basic training in all departments, for the basics. Practical experience is combined with holodeck remote courses for important lectures. And in second year begins the specialized training for the department you choose, combined with holodeck simulations and remote lectures. You can ask Siance and Oz for more detail on those, they both were on board as Cadets, Oz has done his whole Academy training here and will have his final exams soon.

Tylana/Kincaid: response

Rajel: Mhm yes, while it is great that you are in an environment that you are familiar with and have on hand training, so more practical experience than theory, you will also have to make sure to kick your own ass to do the work on days when you don't want to. Since there is no Academy instructor or dorm drill sergeant for you. ::She smirked::

Tylana/Kincaid: response

Rajel: Well, Tylana Kincaid. If you are fine with that, then I'll be happy to sponsor you.

Tylana/Kincaid: response

Rajel: Come to my office after we enjoy some shore leave here and we go through the paper work together.

Tylana/Kincaid: response
