(( USS Constitution-B – Dickens's quarters ))
The news of engineering setting up additional blocks to the main servers was good news for them to work safely.
Shimisi: All right... I'm finishing the specific firewall. It should be a first line to block anything transferring out of here.
Perax: The portable power supply is up and running.
He nodded at Leran and smiled at his appearance.
Shimisi: Thanks! Good job.
I believe we're safe to try it.
Perax:
Is that a Tholian data crystal?
He noticed his interest and felt good that he's curious and checking what they had in their hands.
S'Jenes: We believe this crystal was left on board of one of the runabouts after our last mission. It is believed to be Kameryan in origin.
Shimisi: It's not uncommon to use data crystals as torage information, but they're quite back in capacity compared, even with isolinear chips, not to mention bio-neural devices.
Perax: Well, I don’t know about Kamyrian crystal, but Tholian crystal data devices usually take lower energy levels and have a large storage capacity. We had to set up a special data port on our PADDs when we ran trade routes into Tholian space.
S’Jenes: That would be consistent with what we observed on the surface. Their technology appears to favor integration with natural systems rather than standardization.
Shimisi: Well, Tholian tech might be further developed given their nature. However, seeing it in Kameryan tech, I could guess it'll be less advanced. However, from what you're saying :: to S'Jenes:: if they favor that kind of tech, it could be similar.
Perax: So, the crystal responds to the environment? That seems less versatile than the Tholian kind unless there is a way of determining what environment each crystal responds to.
S’Jenes: It is possible the environmental responsiveness serves as a form of selective access. Perhaps functioning as a security measure.
Shimisi: That can make sense. This way, the data can only be accessed while on the rogue planet, or if you know the exact conditions of it and how to recreate them.
Perax turned to the station, setting up what looked like algorithms probably destined to solve part of their issues with the interaction between systems.
Perax: I have decoding algorithms set up. It might take a couple passes before it has something intelligible.
S’Jenes: That should be sufficient for initial interpretation. Even partial decoding will allow us to establish a baseline, of sorts.
Shimisi: Add it to what we've already set up and we should have a firm basis to get access.
A few minutes later, something started to activate on the crystal and they managed to keep it stable. Then data began flowing and Perax seemed quite absorbed reading the data. He get to it too and noticed a pattern... maybe a kind of log.
Perax: It’s about a glowing rock?! I expected something, I don’t know, more serious. There’s a history file, a list of planets, and a log entry.
S’Jenes: Perhaps, in cultural context, the glowing rock may have symbolic or historical importance.
Shimisi: So, they left a crystal with information about a specific rock? Why? And what about those planets?
Perax: The list of planets according to the log are planets already searched. Apparently the rock has some sort of cultural significance.
S’Jenes: So this isn't just a storage device, but a record of a journey tied to this "glowing rock"?...Fascinating.
Shimisi: Since the list of planets are ones they've already searched, maybe they're looking for it for a specific purpose.
S'Jenes turned to look at Perax and Shimisi.
S'Jenes: What is the
probability that the translation is either inaccurate or
misinterpreted?
Perax: Response
Shimisi: The data seems pretty specific and I don't see inconsistencies that suggest an error or mishap.
S'Jenes: Those odds are intriguing to say the least. Our current understanding without additional context may lead to misinterpretation. would it be appropriate to elevate our findings to Commodore Jalana for further guidance?
Perax: Response
Shimisi: Since this was found on one of out shuttles and we have accessed it, I believe it's proper to inform the FO and the Commodore.
S'Jenes: If this device were part of an ongoing Kameryan mission or process, I believe it would prove diplomatically significant to return it in some way.
Perax: Response
Shimisi: I agree... Save all the data regarding how to access it and leave the lab ready for further use.
S'Jenes/Perax: Response
Shimisi: I'll bring this to them, so they decide what to do with it. We've made a great job with this before shore leave. Any specific plans there?
S'Jenes/Perax: Response
Shimisi: Good. I just need a few lines from you regarding the crystal and what we got from it and I guess you'll be ready to go on shore leave unless you have anything else to do.
S'Jenes/Perax: Repsonse
