((Tribble Trails Ski Lodge - Northern Mountains, Arentis))

((Time Index: After the repair of the weather control systems.))

With the arrival at Arentis, Laria knew she wanted to go skiing as soon as the weather control system was fixed. Growing up in Dorvan, she remembered all of their ski trips up to the Ayai'leh-hirh Mountains. It was one of her favorite ways to unwind and something she enjoyed doing for real whenever she got the chance. And she had wanted to share it with others. She had put up notices in the lounge and Saloon about a group session for beginners to skiing. She’d picked out one of the lodges on the easier slopes, Tribble Trails. Soon, hopefully, people would arrive.

It was a good opportunity to get to know the crew outside of official functions. That was one of her goals as the ship’s mission specialist and aspiring command division officer. Study the crew and get to know everyone on more than a technical and official performance level. Knowing how people worked, thought, and socialized could be helpful. During her time on the Iotian Enterprise, she did feel that one of her weaknesses had been not knowing the crew as well as she’d like. She knew names and duty posts but not much more. And people could get to know her without being too stern and formal.

Of course she couldn’t resist being herself and putting way too much effort into the get-together. Laria had put together a selection of snacks and warm dishes and hot drinks before they went out into the snow. She made sure everything was laid out on the table nice and straight. There was a tomato and goat cheese dip, soft pretzel bites, scones, fresh fruit, hot cocoa, and more spread out on a table near the doors.

Herren: Hello, welcome!

She turned to face the doors of the lodge to welcome the first arrival.

Anyone: Response

Laria gestured to the buffet table and multiple racks of ski equipment behind her, offering up the variety available.

Herren: We’ve got some warm snacks to fit with the cold weather. We’ve also got a collection of equipment for people to choose from. People are certainly spoiled for choice.

The ski lodge employees had really gone above and beyond to accommodate her request to give a variety of options for people who might not have equipment. There were racks of ski pants and jackets, a pile of goggles, plenty of ski poles, and light, flexible track skis good for beginners. She was most impressed by the multiple rows of ski boots. They wouldn’t be as ideal as custom-fitted boots, but most people would be able to find something that wasn’t going to be too much of an obstacle.

Anyone: Response

Herren: Ever been skiing before?

She had no way of knowing how experienced people were going to be. Maybe a few people who had at least gone skiing a few times before. Or who were rusty and wanted an experienced person to go with. And likely people who had never gone skiing before and wanted to learn while still going with members of their crew.

Anyone: Response
