((Sickbay, Deck 5 - USS Icarus))

She checked the crown like device and after a moment of concern that it might not still work, the small lights on the front lit up. And she saw the connection established in her own PADD>

Lystra: That’s a good question. Aside from standing with their head in this thing, what shall we have them do? ::she dictated a message for their ghostly friends::  [We’re discussing that, one moment please.]

Brexis: I wish we had some cool hold music to have them listen to in between messages.

She chuckled to herself. Finding her quip funnier than it should have been.

Foster: I could hum ‘Girl from Ipanema’ if you want.

She nodded and then shot Cade a smirk.

Lystra: We can’t have it floating around. Cade, can you hold it in place for them? [The Neural Interface has power. Can one of you see if you can fit your head inside it and do the same thing you did with the PADD? Try thinking of your response.]

Foster: Sure thing, try that.

Brexis: ::Softly:: Come on ghost buddies. You can do it.

Their suit comm badges all chirped in unison and she heard S’Jenes’ voice.

S’jenes: =/\= All away teams, this is S’jenes, We have made contact with one of the apparitions. The entity identified herself as Lieutenant Junior Grade Barb Byrnes, communications officer of the Icarus. Based upon the information obtained during the exchange, we currently assess that the apparitions are phase-shifted survivors rather than residual energy phenomena. We established communication using tricorders as a localized dampening field and electromagnetic carrier waves to temporarily synchronize phases which has allowed for 32 seconds of direct communication. We are investigating ways of extending said communication and have identified a repeating pattern within the phase variance which may be key to further communication. If your teams have any relevant findings or suggestions, please advise. S'Jenes out. =/\=

She looked between Cade and Charlotte with a smile. She hadn’t the slightest clue how they would even begin to try and fix their new friends and of course smarter crewmates had already figured out a partial solution.

Lystra: =/\= That’s great! We’ve been able to establish fairly reliable contact through PADDs and now with a Neural Interface Unit. We’ve located the Icarus’ Chief Medical Officer. We’ll try to get more information as soon as we can. Lystra out. =/\= ::she grinned at the others:: We have three tricorders with us. Do we think that’ll be enough to try and replicate what S’Jenes just told everyone?

Brexis: It’s worth a shot. But I think you two seem to have a better handle on this than I do.

Foster: I’m pretty sure we can do that, but with only three tricorders that’s gonna be a pretty small field.

The Boslic looked between the NIU and her colleagues. An idea had popped into her head but she was not sure she had the scientific expertise to figure the details out.

Lystra: What if instead of making a field around the people, if we focused the localized damping field to just the NIU? Would it be possible to phase it enough to make it easier for the doctor and his crewmate to use it without exerting themselves so much? ::she again dictated to their ghostly companions:: [Our shipmates figured out a temporary way to get direct contact for a few seconds, we’re going to see if we can replicate it. Please, sit tight. We’re going to do everything we can to help you and your crew.]

Brexis: I’m sure there’s got to be a way. ::To Lystra:: Should we still get the Aleek-Om to beam us over some supplies?

Lystra: Absolutely. If we get this to work we might consider using pattern enhancers to create a larger field. So we should have them beam some over too.

Foster: We should have a good enough set up to communicate if we calibrate the tricorders as S’Jenes recommended. But we’re almost certainly going to need supplies to get these people un-phased.

Brexis: Alright. What do you need me to do? How can I help?

Lystra: Good question.

Charlotte looked between her and Cade.

Foster: Alright, the neural interface is all set and powered, Lystra’s got the PADD. Lieutenant Brexis, can you help me recalibrate these tricorders. We’ll triangulate around the neural interface unit.

Brexis: I can do that.

Lystra: Alright. Sounds like a plan.

As the whole thing was set up, Cade looked up from his tricorder, finishing all the adjustments.

Foster: Alright, I’m all set, too. Let’s try to stabilize this phase.

Lystra: The PADD’s still working and has plenty of charge left.

Brexis: Response

Lystra had expected them to maybe see the interface unit hovering on its own volition in the air or something. Not a spectre of a 100 year old Starfleet uniform. What was interesting was as they tried to talk, the words came clearly through on the PADD – clear words and a hint of a voice over the tinny speaker of the PADD.

Foster: Well, hello there, who are you?

Douffet: Me or him?

Pretak: Response

Another 100 year old Starfleet uniform spectre appeared.

Lystra: Either or both honestly. ::she whispered to Charlotte:: I don’t know if just seeing disembodied uniforms is better or worse.

Brexis: Response

Foster: I’m Lt. Commander Cade Foster, Chief Medical Officer.

Douffet: I am Doctor Bryon Douffet. ::Gesturing around:: This is my sickbay you’ve been rummaging through.

That made her brow raise slightly. They were basically ghosts and that was what he was worried about. When she took a moment to consider it, she would probably be a little annoyed if someone had gone into the armory and just started messing with all the weapons she’d so diligently maintained every week.

Pretak: Response

Lystra: Lieutenant JG Lystra. Tactical and Security.

She smiled towards the disembodied uniforms. Because that was totally a normal thing in Starfleet.

Brexis: Response

Foster: What is the last thing you remember before you ended up incorporeal?

Douffet: I was here. In the sickbay. One moment I was trying to find where my M7 Medical Drone was, ::looking disgusted as he looked towards the cabinet:: Then next thing I know I am waking up on the floor. Now we’re here.

She saw the uniform shrug. Yep, that wasn’t weird at all.

Pretak: Response

Lystra: And in between a century passed. Honestly, I’m not sure the hyperwarp drive was worth all this.

Brexis: Response

Douffet: You said we’ve been gone for 100 years… How is that even possible?

Pretak: Response

Lystra: A hundred and thirty years to be specific. And I have no idea. I honestly don’t know enough about how a hyperwarp drive works, but I know temporal nonsense well enough. Maybe whatever you were doing during those jumps caused temporal fractures? A wormhole maybe? Our science team will have to figure that out.

Brexis/Foster: Response

Doufett/Pretak: Response

They were making a lot of progress now that they were actually able to have a normal conversation with their disconnected friends from the Icarus. She heard the comms chirp specifically directed to only certain people.

Ch'Nilmani: =/\= Diz to Teams 2, 3, and 5. We got a problem. Patches and her team have been way laid by what appears to be Sheliak. I think the Icarus is being boarded. =/\=

Lystra’s eyes widened and she shot a look towards Cade. Sheliak were the last ones she expected to hear about, but the last bit about the Icarus being boarded had her free hand immediately fall to one of her phasers. The Boslic’s head whipped about to double check that they didn’t have any extra guests in Sickbay.

Lystra: Sheliak? Here. Why in the stars would they be interested in the Icarus?

Brexis/Foster: Response

Doufett/Pretak: Response

She looked back towards the uniforms in front of them with a brow furrowed with concern.

Lystra: Think walking puddles of sludge that think almost all other lifeforms are inferior. Incredibly ordered though, their legal process is so convoluted it can even make Ferengi blush. My parents always complained about how many hoops they had to jump through to make any deliveries in or through their space.

Brexis/Foster: Response

Doufett/Pretak: Response

She looked between Cade and Charlotte with concern. If the ship was being boarded there was the possibility things could escalate to a fire fight even if diplomacy was being attempted first. She was the security detail for their team so she would do everything she could to protect the others. At least their ghostly friends weren’t in phase enough to be at risk, or she hoped.

Lystra: If the Icarus is being boarded by Sheliak there’s a chance this could end up going badly. And we only have the Oleek-Om. The Nova class is cute and all, but I’d feel a lot better if we had the Conny with us. She’s got more phasers. ::she took a breath:: We haven’t had any visitors yet, but Sickbay is a critical part of the ship so we might not be alone for too long. What do you think we should do?
