((Main Engineering, USS Constitution-B, Nearing the Trip Depot))

((About see twelve hours prior to talking to Maiman Terpes))

Perax swayed slightly before grabbing the handrail on the upper platform near the warp core. His vision blurred as his eyes lost focus, and he slapped himself in the face using the pain to shock him back awake. The number of extended shifts he had needed to pull so he could keep an eye on the structural integrity field and the ship’s velocity were numerous.

Fortunately, they were nearly at Tucker Station and that meant soon he would be able to take more than a four or five hour nap before going back to damage control or integrity field maintenance. He ducked as a model of the USS California passed by. It wasn’t that Shimisi was driving him that hard, but Perax was a bit of a workaholic, and he considered the condition of the Constitution to be serious.

He used the lift to descend to the main floor. He sat down at the master display and increased the energy of the structural integrity grid on the port side by 3.42 percent. He leaned forward and put his head in his hands.

oO Ooh, sitting down might have been a mistake. I don’t know if I’m going to get up. Oo

He tried to sit up straight as Shimisi cleared his throat to make an announcement, but he still leaned heavily on the master control station, though he did make sure he was not pressing any buttons.

Shimisi: Everyone, please, give me your attention. :: the people around stopped their work and looked at him. He felt a bit intimidated but he'd called for it. :: We're getting near Tucker station, we'll have some shore leave and soon we'll get our skeleton shifts scheduled. The station engineers will do most of the job, but we need to know what and how they do to be ready the moment we need to get out. You've earned a rest, but I expect you to keep up with the ship's condition. Aside from that, enjoy your time off when you have it.

Perax yawned. The model of the USS California swooshed by again before settling between his two Binar colleagues.

Hexa: We are looking forward

Peta: to seeing the shipyards. We have

Hexa: never visited, but it is well

Peta: regarded back at Utopia

Hexa: Planitia.

His eyeballs lazily bounced back and forth between the two. Their tag-team approach to conversation reminded him of a tennis match with the ball bouncing between both players.

Perax: ::he barely stifled a yawn:: Watchtower Class Starbase has my favorite station design. I’ll enjoy touring it.

Benjamin: Response (if any)

Shimisi: If you have any questions or need anything, just tell me.

Perax: Do we know what parts of the ship are going to be off limits at which times?

Benjamin: Response (if any)

Shimisi: Response (if any)

Hexa: The plasma manifold vents,

Peta: could use a purge,

Hexa: as well as some minor repairs.

Peta: The Chrondite appears to have caused some,

Hexa: physical abrasion to the vents prior to,

Peta: its removal after we left the nebula.

Perax: We might want to add the bustard collectors too. Those intakes might be clogged as well.

Benjamin/Shimisi: Response

He watched the two Binars, Hexa and Peta, check their station monitor.

Hexa: We think the Chrondite,

Peta: also might have affected other external,

Hexa: orifices on the hull, such as

Peta: the torpedo tubes, fore and,

Hexa: aft. As well as cargo and shuttle

Peta: bay doors. They should be,

Hexa: checked as well.

His eyes felt heavy.

Perax: I heard that the deflector might have been scuffed and have some minor damage. It’s not super important, but if we’re having everything else checked, we might as well tell the fleet yards about it too. ::he couldn’t stop the next yawn::

Benjamin/Shimisi: Response

The conversation sounded distant. His vision darkened. He stood in a dark grassland, and thunder rolled in the distance from a luminous cloudy sky. He walked in the direction that he knew his crew was. Why he had let them out of his sight, he wasn’t sure, but if he didn’t hurry and catch up with them, they would leave him behind on this world.

Sudden movement in the grass caused him to stop with his heart in his throat. He reached for his phaser but found what he withdrew was a snake covered in chrodite. A figure appeared in the grass and tossed something at his feet that grew into vines that wrapped around him. He screamed and fell over toward the ground.

Perax: I need to get to the runabout! I promise I won’t mess with your plants!

Then, he hit the deck of Main Engineering. He blushed furiously as he realized through his adrenaline rush that everyone in the room was looking at him.

Benjamin/Hexa/Peta/Shimisi: Response

Perax: Sorry, Sir. ::he addressed Shimisi:: I must have dozed off. How much of the conversation did I miss?

Benjamin/Hexa/Peta/Shimisi: Response
