(( USS Constitution - Bridge ))
'Seva: But we may not have the choice.
Ba'el: We can link each shuttles sensor system with the ships, thus
improving our ability to target phasers if needed. It is limited, but
until we fine tune our sensors, this is the best option, in my opinion.
Ch'Nilmani: Go ahead.
T'Seva: :: moving her hands again :: Setting that up now.
Ba'el: response
T'Seva: And set. Let me see what my algorithm is up to...oh, not that.
Ch'Nilmani: It's good to focus on defense but remember. We're still in
Federation territory and this is a science mission. The nearest hostile
to Starfleet is quite a few light years away. Let's not loose focus on
those we have out there.
Ba'el: response
T'Seva: I have to admit I think about defense first because it's my job, but you're right. And any hostile that is in here is going to have rabbited a while ago.
Pirates, the only thing likely to be hiding in this nebula, would run from a Constitution class.
Ch'Nilmani: With that in mind, how about we do some science work on this
nebula itself. NOt just how it's messing with our sensors. We should be
able to at least start logging data on composition and stuff. We can't
let the shuttlecrafts have all the sciencey fun.
Ba'el: response
T'Seva: This nebula is fairly well studied, I believe, but...
Ch'Nilmani: How about the composition of the nebula. Anything cool or
new there our PhDs can write research papers on?
T'Seva: So, this nebula is an emissions nebula that is on its way to becoming a stellar nursery, hence the high energy and levels of ionization. But the composition is typical from what I can tell...mostly hydrogen and helium, some oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen. The problem for our sensors is ionized dust...and that dust...let me see here. Still working on the sensors.
But if she was right she'd just found something cool.
Ch'Nilmani: ::To Ba'el :: On that left panel of my chair, you should be
able to extend the mini-LCARs and get an overview of the sensor suite.
Try your hand at connecting to that probe we have out there and see if
you can pull anything from it. It's not gonna get much on the planet but
we should be able to see if there are any layers to this nebula or any
other fun things.
Ba'el: response
T'Seva glanced over at the counselor. She seemed to be handling things well.
T'Seva: Okay...I got us some more clarity. Let me show you something.
Ch'Nilmani/Ba'el: response
T'Seva: See how that area of dust sparkles more than others?
It wasn't much...but it was visible as she shifted the view through the screen.
Ch'Nilmani/Ba'el: response
T'Seva: :: mischievous :: What do you think that is, Ba'el?
T'Seva wasn't strictly a scientist. But at some level, everyone in StarFleet was a scientist. Discovery was what it was all about...even for those who's training was to keep people safe so they could make the discoveries.
Ch'Nilmani/Ba'el: response
