(( Intelligence Office - USS Constitution-B ))
The screen saver had popped up since Ilix and Nugra had been talking. The Gorn was actually pleased with some quiet distraction from everything that was happening on the ship.
Ilix: Understandable. To be honest, I’d have preferred if I’d done something like that. A mistake, but not as bad as mine. Maybe I feel that way because I did it. ::He shrugged:: I physically assaulted then Cadet Thyar in a turbolift. I had her pinned to the wall because I thought she was being too suspicious watching the Commodore from afar like I had observed her doing for a while. ::He looked at the Gorn:: If it had been anyone but Jalana in command, I imagine I’d not be wearing this uniform.
Nugra: Conflict is sometimes unavoidable though I do not know your specific situation, Jalana must have taken that into consideration. On a Gorn ship, physical altercations are required.
Ilix: I’m better with animals than I am with people. I grew up on a preservation reserve back on Tandar Prime. Wildlife is easier to understand. They live off instinct. Oddly enough, scrutinizing animals of all kinds lends itself well to studying body language once you know how each species moves.
The Gorn nodded at what he had said. Nugra had worked with animals to though more of a hunter than a preserver.
Nugra: Our background does answer to what we become many times. I am no different.
Ilix: I’m sure most people give you a wide berth even when you’re happy about something because they see a ‘scary giant lizard that could break them in half’ or something. ::He mused:: Now that I think about it, Caitains, Worene and Pahkwa-thanh tend to elicit the same reactions from most other species.
The Senior Commander chuckled at this with a nod. It was quite often that humanoids steered clear of him for one reason or another. He had grown used to it over the years in Starfleet.
Nugra: In some cases, the reputation is earned and erring on the side of caution makes sense. The Gorn have been a predator species until only a few centuries ago. We still have the instinct and it probably comes across. The key is to know when it's a reaction and when it's a warning.
Ilix: response
Nugra: My species still prides itself on it's hunting abilities. I come from a subset of my species called
Hek'lar. We're not fast but our strength is unrivaled against others. We may not hunt as well as the Hek'Tal or hek'mel but the instinct is there.
Ilix: response
Nugra: Tell me more about this preserve you speak of...if you have the time.
