((Starbase 104 - The Space))

The matters of holoprograms and sentience continued to dominate the mind of Skepus. He had worked other cases, but none were as appealing as the cause Commander Saveron had put him on.

However, Saveron had taken a leave of absence, and this was not an official case--at least yet--so all of his work on it was on his own time. That was something he had in abundance. It turns out being a zealous prosecutor for Starfleet didn't win many friends.

While he displayed emotions freely, he was still raised in Vulcan society. His deep passion for intellectual rigor and logic lead him down many paths.

Right now, the logical action was to take a break and go for a walk. The path he walked was through a dense forest alongside the lake in The Space.

The sounds of a group of people playing, cavorting, and laughing carried across the water easily, and he occasionally caught glimpses of them through gaps in the trees.

It was the crew of the Constitution. He stopped to watch and listen for a moment, and he felt his heart ache. A found family, all together.

The adversarial aspect of his work had, perhaps, sullied his worldview too much in the past. It was always Skepus v _____, always something to litigate, something to win.

Would proving the sentience of holograms save his katra? Impossible to say, but it was important to him to try and do some good in the world. Not for the sake of winning and self-aggrandizement! But to actually connect with others.

He turned down a path away from the lake and continued his stroll.
