((Engineering, Deck 5, USS Icarus))
Getting into a subspace rift had been easy. The experiment had been running exceptionally well-- that was until they tried to leave the last rift. Lavin and his fellow engineers still weren't sure how it happened, but when the Icarus failed to leave the rift, they found their dilithium had broken. It had taken four days of working around the clock and lots of coffee but they had managed to jury-rig a solution. The Icarus had left the rift-- only, the cheers, pats on the back, and congratulations were cut short as the power cut out ship wide not even two minutes later.
It was determined that they still must have gravity and oxygen, as they were on the ground and not suffocating, but other than that there wasn't much they could do with the ship being completely dark. The ship may have only had power for two minutes but that was still plenty of time for the automatic signal to go out, they just had to wait for backup from Starfleet. Which realistically could take days. Since they had gone off course with the days spent in subspace, they had no idea how far out they were. With that in mind several of the engineers had left to see if they could figure out the food and water situation, leaving Lavin, Ensign Zheng, and Petty Officer Atwi in engineering.
((OOC: Lavin L'Tang is my MSNPC. Ensign Zheng and Petty Officer Atwi are regular NPCs.))
It was many hours later when a sliver of light caught the group's attention.
Zheng: The rescue team got here sooner than I would have expected.
Atwi: If it is our rescue team...
The Petty Officer trailed off as the people that the lights belonged to walked further into the main hallway, illuminating Lavin's coffee mug floating just outside the break room that they were in.
Zheng: Umm... L'Tang, if your mug is floating--
L'Tang: It should not be. We're not floating.
He walked over to the mug intending on plucking it out of the air, only for his hand to pass straight through it. As if to mock him, one of the people in EV suits easily grabbed it before letting it go again.
L'Tang: Who are you? I don't recognize your EV suits. A new design?
They walked right past him. If being ignored wasn't bad enough one of the others picked his mug out of the air and shoved it into a case.
L'Tang: Excuse me, that's my coffee mug. Please give it back.
She continued down the hallway.
Lavin had learned at the Academy that coffee was one of humanity's greatest inventions.
L'Tang: I don't care that I can not hold it. You can not just run off like that with an engineer's coffee mug!
Atwi: They can't hear us. :: he stated matter-of-factly ::
Lavin glanced at him, before following the intruders down the hallway.
L'Tang: ::without turning around:: What is happening to us Atwi?
Atwi: I've seen a lot of things in my time but nothing like this.
L'Tang: Their technology appears to be more advanced than ours. Could we be dealing with some sort of partial distortion device to make boarding vessels easier?
Atwi: Possible.
L'Tang: What about a natural spatial anomaly?
Atwi: Possible.
L'Tang: Are you just going to keep saying that it's possible?
Atwi: ::long sigh:: I can't make the answers fall from the sky L'Tang.
The intruders were now trying to access the main engineering room.
L'Tang: You can not go in there!
He used his body to try and block them, only for them to walk straight through him.
Zheng: :: shakily :: What if we're ghosts?
Lavin turned to look at the young ensign.
L'Tang: I won't believe that unless we see our bodies.
He turned on his heel to follow the intruders into the main engineering room.
