Kvash: At least the Icarus looks stable.
Felbri: How often are you checking it?
Kvash: I'm checking periodically. He has been sitting there for a while, after all.
Felbri: Commander D'Sena warned to check for signs of tears in space. Have you noticed anything like that in your readings?
Kvash: Nothing conclusive.
The fabric of space-time was a hard thing, even now, to properly measure.
Felbri: I would expect a tear in space to be more obvious.
Kvash: You'd be surprised. Lots of things are technically tears in space. Space generally heals itself. I am seeing a couple of micro black holes that aren't a concern.
Black holes did count as tears in space. So did wormholes. But she knew what Felbri meant.
Kvash: If you mean a ship eating tear in space then yes, that would be pretty obvious...and extremely rare. If the Icarus went through a rift, it has likely closed, but...what Commander D'Sena is worried about is it reopening.
And the Aleek-Om was not a large ship, making her more vulnerable than the Constitution would have been.
Kvash: If that happens, there's a risk we could get pulled in, but the risk to the Icarus is higher both because he is likely closer to the rift location and because he isn't powered. The Aleek-Om has a decent chance, even at his size, of escaping.
Felbri: If something like that does happen how long would we have to transport everyone back on board?
Kvash: Anywhere from thirty seconds to half an hour. We don't know. So, you're right, I shouldn't get distracted by angry stars.
Kvash: But the people who's specialty it is will love the data when we get back.
For her, this...well...she knew why she was on the mission, because if somebody had travelled 136 years, having an anthropologist around might be helpful for their adjustment. For now, though.
She realized she was actually doing this and had forgotten to be anxious.
Kvash: Actually, I'm going to adjust the sensors and see if I can get a better reading on any spatial disturbances. We might be able to get more data.
She grinned at the Ensign.
Kvash: Thank you.
