((Syraya, Southern Hemisphere))

They picked up the tele-binocs and watched for the reaction. The signal was bounced off the hard stone near the valley entrance. Jin’Tauri knew from her years of study which rocks were better suited to bouncing frequencies off of, and which would absorb the sound.

oO Fortunately, this planet is littered with hard rocks. Oo

Avoo’na: They appear to be headed towards more even terrain.

Jin’Tauri: try bouncing a signal from over there. ::they pointed in a direction that would allow the invaders to choose whether they would move toward or away from the signals without drawing them towards their equipment.:: Do you think they will follow the signals or do you think they will attempt to withdraw?

oO The real question in this game of pintek and klinar is whether we are going to play as the predator or the prey Oo

((OOC: pintek and klinar: Kamyrian equivalent of cat and mouse))

Avoo’na: Follow, I think. They went towards the rock after it stopped moving to study it. They may try to study the signals.

Jin'Tauri: Then we should try to lure them instead of chase them.

The ground shook as a quake rattled the valley and the forest. A chirp on their wrist comm/scanner attested to the fact that the ruins had shook as well. Jin’Tauri could almost feel the rocks groan under the change in pressure.

Avoo'na: What's your deity say?

Jin'Tauri: The Noram do not have to question what our deity says. Noram is as constant as the stones and as firm as mountains.

Avoo'na: Our signals don’t seem to have gotten their attention. Let’s move, we need to keep them in our sights. They appear to be headed towards the ruins, they might notice the equipment we have there if they wander too far.

Jin'Tauri: Which we must avoid.

A feeling of dread settled over Jin’Tauri. The obsidian pillar didn’t cause them to flinch. The invaders either didn’t notice or care about the sensor ghosting.

oO Are they that reckless and fearless, or are we really dealing with someone as stupid as the Pakleds? They seem more intelligent, but they ignore what should cause concern. Maybe my signal isn’t powerful enough? Oo

Jon’Tauri shook themself from their thoughts as they saw Avoo’na move toward the cover of shrubs and bushes. They followed Avoo’na toward the ruins. Avoo’na’s course was a wise one, sticking to the bushes and grasses that lined the edges of the clearing where the ruined structures lie.

They looked with the same wonder as they had the first time they found the stone ruins. These were not mere hovels but well made structures out of granite and slate. Whoever the makers of these ruins were, they understood stonecraft and engineering.

Avoo'na: They're here. We should be far enough back in the treeline to avoid detection. Can you try sending another signal?

They snapped their head around to look in the direction Avoo’na had indicated. The invaders were on the edge of the ruined settlement.

Jin'Tauri: I will try. I’ll bounce it from behind them and see if we can get them to turn around and leave. I’ll send an encrypted data burst with random text and see if that gets their attention.

They tapped their wrist comm and scanner again and sent the scrambled message. They looked through their tele-binocs at the invaders to watch the reaction.

Avoo’na: response

Jin’Tauri: I just had a horrible thought. What if we have to destroy the ruins and our equipment?

oO It would be a great loss to destroy such stonework Oo

Avoo’na: response

Jin’Tauri: It would be a last resort method.

They sent out another two encrypted data bursts both bouncing to the invaders from different directions.

oO Will they press on, or will they retreat? Oo

Avoo’na: response
