(( USS Constitution-B, Bridge ))
It was difficult to see, but in between all the visual noise and
interference - that really made Jalana wish they had a plain
window to the front - was something right before them that looked
different from before. There was still a nebula but it looked..
Solid? And the twinkle of stars that had been scattered through
the nebula or beyond it shining through was gone.
Rajel: Anyone got an idea what we’re seeing?
T'Seva: I think it's a rogue planet.
Lystra: Sweet Stars….I think, she’s right.
Ba'el: But how could it end up here?
A planet. A planet?? She whirled around to look at who had said
that, which happened to be T'Seva and Lystra. Ba'el's question
registered somewhere in the back of her mind.
Rajel: What? There wasn’t anything mentioned on the charts when we
prepared the flight path. ::She turned to the screen again.:: Can
you scan it?
T'Seva: Negative. I still can't get the sensors calibrated for
this mess.
Lystra: Same, ma’am. The nebula isn’t helping things but there’s
definitely mass to it. I’m able to discern a gravity well… I
think.
Of course, it would have been too nice to be able to. After a
moment she pressed her badge.
Rajel: =/\= Rajel to Diz’mim. Come to the bridge, we found a...
Surprise. =/\=
Ch'Nilmani: =/\= Response =/\=
Rajel: T’Aven pull us back a bit, maybe we can see it better
then.
The Vulcan did as she was told, reversing and slowly moving
backwards. It only took a moment before Diz came from his office
and Jalana peeked over him, waving him closer and gesturing with
her head towards the badly transmitting view screen.
Ch'Nilmani: What do we have, O' Captain, my Captain.
Rajel: It takes a moment to see, but have a look.
Ch'Nilmani: Is that what I think it is?
As the ship still backed off a bit it did not really help with the
interference, but in the few moments that they had a view it
looked like they were near a sphere in the middle of the nebula.
It didn’t look metallic or tech, so the idea that had been posed
before that it was a planet, albeit a small one, was more and more
likely.
Rajel: What do you think, Dizzy. Do we have time to check it out?
::She grinned cheekily::
Ch'Nilmani: :: laughing :: I think you already made that decision.
When can Starfleet turn down a good scientific mystery?
T'Seva: There's a lot of energy in this nebula. Just...pointing
that out.
Lystra: You say that, but it’s still maybe a planet. A tiny one…or
a moon. Which are only slightly less as bad as a planet.
Ba'el: ::Looking up from her display:: This reminded me of an
excerpt from a reported incident in the Klingon Empire.
Ch'Nilmani: Which one?
Jalana turned around to look at Ba'el curious as well.
Ba'el: Apparently, on a previously unknown world located in a
nebula known as the Klach D'kel Bracht to the Klingon Empire, also
known as the "Briar patch" to the Federation, a previously unknown
colony of discommendated Klingons was discovered. So, it is
possible that this might be the location of another such hidden
colony.
Lystra: We should be careful though, I recommend that we launch a
class three probe to see if we can get a clearer view of that
thing. Right now the sensors are having a hard time. One moment it
shows as having a weak atmosphere, then a thick one, then it
doesn't have one at all. A probe or two might help us compensate
for the nebula. A class three and a class four probe would cover
the stellar and planetary possibilities.
Ch'Nilmani: Probe is standard procedure but I sincerely doubt
we're going to get a better reading. That nebula looks really
charged.
Rajel: I agree, you can still send one, but don't expect any
results.
Lystra: I know not many have come through here before but you’d
think Starfleet’s initial stellar cartographers would’ve noticed
signs of Peekaboo here.
Ba'el: The previously undiscovered colony world Ba'ku had gone
undiscovered by the Federation and the Empire for nearly a century
before finally being found. So it isn't impossible for this to
happen again I would think?
Ch'Nilmani: Nope.
Rajel: I agree. There are many things that are not impossible.
Planets forming in Nebulas does happen even if it is rare, and
Starfleet avoiding the area because of the interference may be a
reason that we have not discovered it before.
Ch'Nilmani: I think this is a great opportunity to add more to
what we know about the sector. Not to mention :: gesturing to
screen :: mysterious planet.
Rajel: Couldn't have said it better myself. It doesn't happen
every day that we have this chance to discover something new.
Anyone: response
Ch'Nilmani: ::winking:: I'm also willing to consider letting you
go down. Regulations and all.
Rajel: ::laughing:: I might take you up on that, though I believe
I want to send two teams down first to get a first look at it.
Anyone: response
He stood and stretched as he moved forward, looking at the
screen.
Ch'Nilmani: Is there even a safe way through that soup to... ::to
Lystra:: What did you call it?
Lystra: response
Jalana shook her head slightly. Of course Lystra went and named
it. Maybe not the proper name but a work in progress name at
least.
Ch'Nilmani: Ah. Peekaboo. Anyway we can get safely to Peekaboo?
Rajel: I suggest shuttles and EVA suits since we don't know what
kind of atmosphere we have down there. What do you say, T'Seva?
T’Seva: Response
Ch'Nilmani: :: To bridge :: Anyone else have anything they want to
input?
Anyone: response
Rajel: Alright, then I'll get away teams compiled. We will need to
shuttles or runabouts, and EVA suits... six for the teams and some
spares in case something damages them. Can I put you on organizing
that? ::She looked to Diz'mim::
Ch'Nilmani: Response
She nodded and looked to the bridge crew.
Rajel: Alright thoughts on who should be going down. Science,
Security, Medical.. anyone else?
Anyone: Response
Rajel: Yes, Engineering is a good thought. We don't know what
awaits us and if the Shuttle, EVA suits or equipment gets damaged
we need someone there to repair them.
Anyone: Response
Jalana nodded and moved to her chair, to sit down. She went
through the duty roster and put a list together in her mind,
before she pressed the button to open a channel.
Rajel: =/\= Rajel to the following officers, Yirah, Lystra, Perax,
Foster, S'Jenes, Eze, Mec. We have discovered a surprise planet in
the nebula and are going to send two away teams down. We do not
know what will await us prepare accordingly. You'll go down by
shuttle and will need EVA suits that are being prepared. Cade, I
want one medical officer per team, send Maramox and either you or
Ellie for the other team. I'll meet you in shuttle bay in half an
hour for a brief and tasks. =/\=
Yirah/Lystra/Perax/Foster/S'Jenes/Eze/Mec: Response
Rajel: =/\= See you in thirty. Rajel out. =/\=
She stood up from her chair again and took a deep breath.
Rajel: The rest of us will have to stay here and try to raise the
chances of our away teams seeing something down there. I know
it'll be difficult but we are not without options. ::Looking to
tactical:: If you send that probe let me know if you find out
anything, even small things could help.
Anyone: Response
