((Holodeck - Tucker Station))
McCray: It’s called a shotgun. Instead of a single bullet, it fires a packet of smaller pellets. Started out as a way to hunt birds, but they found out that it could be very effective in close ranges because of the pattern of the pellets spreading. Called it a Street Howitzer when it was cut down that short.
Ba'el regarded the "shotgun" with curiosity for a moment before putting it back on the table.
Ba’el: It seems to be a clumsy weapon.
McCray: Stagecoach guards an’ lawmen carried them to protect payroll shipments an’ enforce the law inside towns. Ranchers an’ farmers used it for huntin’ food on the move.
Ba’el: I see..::looks at the other items on the table for a moment before looking
up to Blaine again:: Did no one carry bladed weapons anymore at this time?
Blaine smiled as he reached to his belt and withdrew a single-edged knife with a twelve inch blade and held it out to Ba’el, handle first.
McCray: Bowie knives an’ Arkansas Toothpicks were the order of the day. Though there were daggers an’ the Cavalry carried a saber. The Natives tended to carry tomahawks as well. :: he pulled a hatchet-like weapon from the crate. ::
Ba'el: All of these seem to use self contained ammunition cartridges. What did one do when their supply was exhausted?
McCray: Depends on your options. Ditch it an pick up a loaded one or go for the cold steel. That bein’ said, the stories of Native American attacks were a pretty much a thing of the past by the mid-1880s. Of course, by then, the bank an’ train robbers had taken their place, folks like Black Jack Ketchum, but he wasn’t exactly that smart… Tried to rob a train by himself and got hung for his trouble.
Ba'el considered that.
Ba'el: Klingons do use ranged weapons, but fighting face to face with a blade has always been seen as a more honorable choice. Still, I apologize for my observations. This is your program and this is based in a period of earths history, not Qonos. So, being a polite guest, I will defer to your suggestions.
McCray: I’d honestly recommend havin’ a blade. It’s all about layers, right?
Ba’el: Respond
McCray: Rifle, shotgun, revolver, blade… layers. :: he grinned.::
Ba’el: Respond
Ch'Nilmani: =/\= Ch'Nilmani to Crew. This is a yellow alert recall. All selected crew on this transmission are activated and need to arrive at Docking Port 22-B Section 3. Once you have boarded, find your departments, prepare it and report your status. More details will be provided once everyone is on board. We'll be undocking ASAP. =/\=
Blaine sighed and returned everything to the crate and secured it before replicating a secure transport tag and programmed it to transport the crate to his quarters on the Constitution.
McCray: Guess this cuts the fun short. I’ve got just enough time to flag all this gear for secure return to the Connie an’ get into uniform to report. I really do appreciate you joinin’ in. I had fun, Lieutenant. Maybe next time we’ll be able to see the plot.
Ba’el: Respond
(( OOC: Not sure how best to incorporate the recall, but figured copying and pasting was best. Apologies if that’s not correct. ))
