(( Sinko's House - Paoike Colony - Drever IV ))

Sinko: Several that grow around here, none that I know to be dangerous. But that is out of my expertise.

T’Seva: If it's a fungus, most likely it's not one we would see...

She was having a few thoughts here, but she wasn't a scientist.

Lystra: Maybe an industrial contamination? I don’t know. Has the colony had any damaged equipment that may have leaked something into the fields?

Sinko: Logical next step, but not that I’m aware. Bolen encourages the equipment to be maintained properly.

T’Seva: I think...

Their comm badges chirped just then and she heard the new XO’s voice issuing a weather alert.

Ch'Nilmani: =/\= Ch'Nilmani to Constitution Away
Teams. Be advised. Meteorology has detected a rainstorm build up to the
east of our position. Heavy rains, nothing dangerous. Recommend that if
you don't want a soaked uniform, you find cover before it comes in. =/\=

So much for leaving right now...if Sinko didn't mind them waiting out a brief squall.

Lystra: Is the rainfall here dangerous in any way, or otherwise unique compared to other Minshara class planets that you know of?

Sinko: Another logical inquiry, but no. The rains are unremarkable and the only danger caused by normal rainfall does not occur in this part of the hemisphere.

T’Seva: Hail?

Lystra: What do you mean, this part of the hemisphere?

No, not hail, as Sinko explained.

Sinko: There is a region in the southern part of this hemisphere where the rainfall is known to cause a deadly reaction from some of the local flora. ::The Vulcan’s brow raised, slightly:: Fascinating. There is a fungus that reacts to the composition of the rains there that releases toxic spores, which could account for the livestock at least.

T’Seva: Interesting.

It was more a thinking out loud.

Lystra: Would those spores have any effect on the grains?

Sinko: I do not know, it is lethal to fauna but I have not heard of any instance of plant growth being impacted.

T’Seva: It's still worth looking into.

Lystra: That’s something though. Perhaps some of that fungus ended up around here. ::She looked at T’Seva:: Could there be more than one concurrent problem that just happens to be affecting this village?

Sinko: It could...

T’Seva: Not concurrent.

She glanced at Lystra.

T'Seva: Ammonium nitrate. Aluminum. Perfectly harmless on their own, together they make...

A fairly large boom, done right.

Lystra: ?

Sinko: So you think two normally harmless...

T'Seva: It would explain why it is so localized. Something to run past the science types.

She could hear the rain outside.

T'Seva: I don't think we have more questions, but...I'd rather not go back out for a few minutes.

Sinko: You're welcome to stay, but if you'd like to continue, you could take these. Just leave them at the central settlement and I'll have somebody bring them back.

The Vulcanoid stood and rummaged in the coat closet, coming out with two transparent rain ponchos.

Lystra: ?

T'Seva: Thank you, Sinko. We'll make sure we return them.

And she wanted to see what, if anything, the rain did.

Lystra: ?

T'Seva: If it was that, we'd have dead livestock, not dead plants. But if you would rather wait...

Lystra: ?
