(( Osteris II - ‘Deep South’ Dilithium Mine ))
She yawned slightly. For a Vulcan he was long winded, not that she
had much experience with Vulcans. There weren't many in the
Syndicate at least not that she would have met. Now if one would
mention Romulans that was a different story. But that man clearly
was none.
Shael: In fewer words?
So’Mior: I was expressly brought along to talk about rocks. ::he
said with complete and utter sincerity.::
Shael: Rocks. Exciting. ::Sarcasm dripped from her voice. :: So
what is your opinion on these rocks here? How long will this mine
run until it's empty?
That was the actual question that she had interest in. After all
it had to be profitable.
So'Mior: That completely depends on the mining processes. Osteris
II was specifically chosen for its dilithium rich core.
Shael: An estimate then? Come on, make yourself useful, pet.
So'Mior: This source is expected to produce at current levels for
a minimum of twenty standard years forward. Is that sufficient?
Shael: ::snorting:: We'll see. For now we still have enough in
here to get our work done. ::She gave him a look, the smirk
dancing across her lips.:: And we even have a couple new workers
now, how considerate of you.
So'Mior: None of our team are trained as miners.
Shael: You're a strong boy, you'll be fine. Once we -
That was when she was cut off when a deafening noise and rumble
went through the caves. She reached out to grab So'Mior's arm, not
just to steady herself - though the shaking wasn't that bad - but
also to keep him from using the distraction to run away.
Shael: What .... ::She frowned as the noise got louder and more
gravel-y:: That sounds like a drill. ::She realized and raised her
disruptor to aim it at the Rock Boy:: Tell your people to stop
that. NOW!
So'Mior: I cannot guarantee they could hear me or would obey.
Shael: I showed you what happens with those who don't listen to
me. ::Her thumb changed a setting on her weapon, raising the
energy output::
The Vulcan looked down at the weapon then to her and back down
before he tapped his badge. Good, he was learning fast.
So'Mior: =/\= So’Mior to away team… =/\=
She watched the Vulcan, while her forehead furrowed her brow
ridges moving together at the noise, the tremors of the ground and
lack of reply. So'Mior, that was her new pet's name. She filed
that away for later.
Shael: Why aren't they answering?
So’Mior: Interference at this depth is common. You must be aware
of that, otherwise you would have not physically come down to
check on your team but would have comm-linked them. The mine uses
hardwire communications which would be suppressed by the lockdown.
Her blue eyes moved to his and she squinted. Was he just telling
her it was her fault? 'You must be aware of that' sounded very
much like that. She filed that back for now, he was still too
useful to kick him down a dark hole. And the noise was grating her
nerves so she had to take care of that first.
Shael: What are they doing?
So’Mior: Logically they are attempting to get out from their
lockdown. The logical solution is to open the doors.
Shael: This does not sound like they are trying to get through the
door. So how do we stop them if your fancy tech doesn't get
through?
Did she sound annoyed? Yes, because she was. But what else was
new. Her work here had been interrupted by these Starfleeters, of
course they had tried stupid things, made her pull out the tough
guns, and now this Vulcan put blame on her - in her eyes at least
- and these locked in Fleeters made a ruckus that shook the whole
mine! What else could go wrong.
So’Mior: Then there is another solution.
Shael: What is it? Do I have to pull everything out of your nose?
So'Mior: If they are using drilling equipment, set the explosive
danger alarm off. That would warn them to stop drilling and may
even have a safety feature to turn the drill off.
For a moment she stared at him as if he had made the most
ridiculous suggestion of his life, but when she grinned, showing
her teeth and despite the beautiful face it appeared to be almost
wolfish. If they would not have either at least they would be
annoyed. She had heard that Vulcans had sensitive ears.
Shael: Right.. right let's do that. The controls for that are at
the end of the shaft.
She gestured with the disruptor to continue walking and then
followed him to continue the stairs up. She was quite sure that
there wouldn't be any more issues. After all Elder would take care
of that ship without a doubt and so she'd have a couple more
minions and if they rather died than work for her then that was
their problem. Her people had taken care of some people like that
in the mine as well during the last eight months and if they had
to do that with some more so be it. Of course having more people
work on getting that Dilithium was preferable.
So'Mior: response
After a while they finally reached the top - about bloody time -
and there was also a bit more light. She poked his side with her
disruptor so he knew where to go and walked up to one of the
consoles. The Weapon still aimed at him, she looked down at the
interface that she had gotten familiar with over the last few
months. Well not familiar enough to find the alarm right away. She
had to go through a couple of different screens. Meanwhile the
drilling sound stopped.
So'Mior: response
Shael: You are no fun, pet. Of course I am still starting the
alarm. Who knows what they are on to, can't have them continue go
on my nerve, can we?
So'Mior: response
She looked up and leaned in ever so slightly.
Shael: Let's get one thing clear, pet. You loyalty to your friends
and Starfleet won't do you any good here. I'm the leader so you
are loyal to me.
She didn't wait for an answer before she returned her attention to
the console. Where was that bloody alarm? Annoyed with the
interface as well she put her disruptor down on the top of the
console so she could be quicker with both hands.
So'Mior: response
