Seleya: Apologies, I am Lieutenant Junior Grade, Seleya of Khanda. Tac/sec officer on the Chin’toka, but soon to be Intel officer for the Valkyrie.
Dasal: Don’t be sorry, I’m sorry! Oh you are on the Chin’toka too? Me too! Oh ya-guess we are moving to the Valkyrie soon. Oh um- I am Ensign Korin Dasal. Med Doc, officer, the pleasure is mine.
Seleya: You may join me if you wish.
Seleya motioned to the empty seat, tilting her head slightly as she studied the new ensign. It hadn’t even been a year since she herself had been a fresh Academy graduate, just stepping into her first assignment.
Dasal: Thank you very much. Forgive my ignorance but do I call you by your full name? Or is Seleya okay? I don’t want to be rude. I’ve never met someone…
He stammered a bit, trying to think of the least rude way to ask what species they were.
Dasal: I’m an Angosian from Angosia III!
Seleya tilted her head. She wondered if perhaps he was trying to ask her what species she was. Seleya could have answered in kind, but there was a part of her that wanted to see if the new ensign would ask outright what her species was.
Seleya: Seleya is correct. Going by Khanda would include a population of tens of thousands of people.
Dasal: Oh I see. Thanks, again just want to get it right. Still getting used to meeting so many new people. Is security hard? You said you are changing to an Intel Officer. What’s that?
Seleya: I guess it depends on the person. I enlisted in my own people’s military prior to joining Starfleet, so I am used to this life. But it can be physically intensive.
Seleya took a sip of her tea before continuing.
Seleya: But intel is Starfleet Intelligence. So, mostly looking over data, listening to comms, browsing through news, and so on. A lot more analytical.
Dasal: Is this your first time moving ships? I’m still excited a whole new ship to get lost on before I even learn my way around the Chin’toka
Seleya turned off and set down her PADD as she listened to the ensign talk. He seemed like the nervous type and would probably have to pay full attention to the conversation instead of dividing her attention.
Seleya: This will be my first time, yes. I was assigned to Chin'toka after I graduated. But at least you didn’t get attached to the ship before we moved. Hopefully you did not already unpack all your belongings.
Dasal: Response
Seleya: What got you into medicine? And if you don’t mind, what made you choose Starfleet?
Dasal: Response
Seleya: Going to be nervous for your first mission? They can sometimes get intense or go unplanned.
And Seleya certainly had lots of experience with that already.
