S’Rala: =/\= Commander, our time has expired. There is an Orion vessel about to self-destruct and twelve more inbound with an ETA of nine-point-six-three minutes. We will not be able to hold after they arrive. What is the status down there? =/\=
Sherrard: =/\= We're sendin' you a prisoner, Cap'n. Maybe she can buy ya some time. Other than that, the Organians are still just on about being able to end all this ::beat:: what'er that means. =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= Acknowledged. Stand by, Commander. =/\=
She then flipped a switch and opened a channel to Xiron and Staples in the Engine Room.
S’Rala: =/\= Lieutenants, this is the Captain. What is the status of the modifications? =/\=
Xiron / Staples: =/\= Response =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= You now have less than nine minutes to complete the modifications, at which time I am going to need to warp out of the system since there is a fleet of Orion vessels inbound. Also, I am going to patch you through to the surface. Standby. =/\=
She flipped another switch, reopening the channel to Commander Sherrard then connected it with the comm channel to the team working on the nacelles.
S’Rala: =/\= Commander, Lieutenants Xiron and Staples are working on a plan to alter the warp nacelle configuration. The theory is that it will somehow solve the mystery of the unusual memories we have been experiencing. Please ask Mister Ayelborne if this plan might assist with their condition as well. I suspect their situation may be tied to the unusual storm and our own condition, and they have already confirmed as much. =/\=
Sherrard: =/\= I got'im right here. =/\=
Ayelborne: ::hesitantly talking into the communicator:: =/\= Captain, we believe that if you are able to alter space/time in some way, we may be able to get back just enough of our power to right this situation. =/\=
Is’Kah: =/\= Lieutenant Xiron, can you refresh me on the nacells phase variance? What was their exact frequency? =/\=
Xiron: =/\= Lieutenant Is’Kah. that would be 67 degrees phase variance at 3071 mili-Cochranes . =/\=
Triyan: =/\= Response =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= How will it affect the storm if we initialize our warp nacelles in the vicinity of the storm? And will this help your people, Mister Ayelborne? =/\=
Ayelborne: =/\= Yes, it should work. =/\=
Is’Kah: =/\= Captain, the storm will likely accelerate the drain. Due to how the warp fields formed in this era, we likely stretched out the horned sphere that Lieutenant Stapledon spoke of just before… before… something happened to us. It’s like a ball of pasta dough being stretched between us and the storm. =/\=
Xiron: =/\= I concur with Lieutenant Is’Kah. Hard to say with any sort of certainty. Back of the napkin estimation we have a greater than zero change at breaking up the lattice structure of the crystals. There would be no warp restart after that. =/\=
Staples: =/\= We're going to have to take the chance captain or else spacetime is going to get really strange for a lot of people over the next few billion years. =/\=
Triyan: =/\= Responses =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= I suggest we find a solution quickly. In exactly seven-point-three-one minutes, a fleet of Orion vessels will arrive and we will be forced to leave this system. =/\=
Lowell: =/\= Should we beam up, or do we need to stay down here to do something? =/\=
Sherrard: =/\= Naw, if they can do what they say, we'll stay right down here. =/\=
Is’Kah: =/\= Lieutenant Xiron and Stapledon, I detect a quantum tunnel through subspace, as if a small hose is connected to Ayelborn. If this is the case and it’s being directed through the horned sphere, then... then... I know what I want to say, but by the gods, I've lost the thought. It must be my counterpart speaking. I want to mention a module of something? Something theorized to produce a massive amount of energy without the risks of antimatter. Does that make any sense to you? =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= No, Lieutenant, but I am sure you know what you are talking about. =/\=
Triyan: =/\= Response =/\=
S’Rala: Ensign O’Reilly, full impulse, back us away from the Orion vessel and take us to a safe distance. Full shields.
O’Reilly: Engaging… It will take two minutes to reach a safe distance.
S’Rala: Ensign Leyase, once we’re clear of the blast zone, target the vessel and destroy it before the self destruct is complete. That will limit the blast and mitigate the effects on the system.
Leyase: ::she nodded:: Aye, Captain. Still waiting on repairs to our phasers, but photon torpedoes should still do the trick.
S’Rala nodded an acknowledgement and returned her attention to the screen.
O’Reilly: We have arrived at a safe position, Captain, but we still should expect to feel some rockin’ and rollin’ as the explosion event horizon reaches us, unless Ensign Leyase has something special up her sleeve.
They cleared the blast zone and Leyase fired the torpedoes as she had been ordered and S’Rala watched the telltale orange glow as they streaked toward the Orion vessel.
Leyase: Photon torpedoes away. And I trust you brought us to a safe distance, Ensign, no special tricks needed.
The torpedoes impacted the vessel and it exploded in a big ball of flames that she found oddly pleasing to watch.
oO And that is not logical. But it was glorious. Oo
Leyase: Orion ship destroyed. Any remaining pieces should burn up in Organia’s atmosphere. But the Orion fleet is now five minutes out.
S’Rala: Very good, Ensign. Nice shooting.
oO And again, another illogical thought from me. We need to get this situation resolved soon before I become a Romulan. Oo
O’Reilly: Aaaaand here comes the shock wave. Shouldn’t be too bad at this distance.
She pressed the comm button on her chair to open a shipwide channel.
S’Rala: =/\= Incoming shockwave. All hands, brace for impact. =/\=
Leyase: I’m getting power back to phasers now. The port side torpedo tube is still inoperable. Damage teams are reporting structural damage, probably won’t be ready before the fleet arrives.
S’Rala: Acknowledged. Recommendations?
O’Reilly: Well, we’ll just have to make due without that port torpedo tube. I’ll beat to the starboard when needed.
Leyase: Orion fleet four minutes out. Shields are almost back to full strength, but four-to-one odds aren’t looking good, Captain. What are your orders?
S’Rala: We hold, Ensign. If Lieutenant Staples is correct, and the Organians are telling us the truth, then all of this will not matter if we can repair everything that has been done. Ensign O’Reilly, begin evasive maneuvers, but use them to bring us closer to the next Orion vessel. Keep our starboard side shielded until we’re ready to fire.
O’Reilly: Yes, Ma’am!
Xiron: =/\= Captain, the nacelles are ready. =/\=
Ayelborne: =/\= Captain, as I've told your officers, our power is beyond your comprehension. I know that must sound strange to you, but you will have to trust us. =/\=
S'Rala: =/\= Acknowledged, Lieutenant Xiron. Initiate. :: to Ayelborne :: I understand what you are saying, sir, but I remain skeptical. However, it seems we have little choice but to trust you. =/\=
Ayelborne: =/\= Response =/\=
Sherrard: =/\= We'll be standin' by Cap'n. Let'ya know if anything does change down'ere. =/\=
S'Rala =/\= Acknowledged. =/\=
Xiron: =/\= Full power to the nacelles. We are getting a subspace cavitation warning. :: beat :: It cleaned. The crystal matrix looks stable. I think we did it, Captain. =/\=
On the main viewer, she watched as the space around the Qin began to glow, twist and stretch while growing in strength and intensity. It was almost as if they were recreating the storm that had trapped them before coming to Organia.
O’Reilly: That’s beautiful…but what does it mean? And what if it engulfs the Qin?
S'Rala: I’m not entirely certain of the science, Ensign, but I believe that is the idea.
Leyase/Xiron =/\= Responses =/\=
Staples: =/\= Captain, it's working. Are you hearing anything from Ayelborne? =/\=
S'Rala: =/\= Standby, Lieutenant. =/\=
She reached out to contact the surface when the bridge briefly flickered in front of her face. Suddenly, Serala was standing on the bridge of the Chin’toka and then S’Rala was back on the Qin.
S’Rala: =/\= Mister Ayelborne, is this helping your people? =/\=
Ayelborne: =/\= Response =/\=
Sherrard / Tiama / Triyan / Any =/\= Responses =/\=
Is’Kah: =/\= Captain, I still detect the subspace draw from the Organians. I have a theory, but I’ll need a moment to confirm. =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= Make it quick, Lieutenant. The Orions are now two minutes away. =/\=
She waited patiently as the seconds ticked by. Finally, the report came in from Is’Kah.
Is’Kah: =/\= Response =/\=
S’Rala: =/\= Mister Ayelborne, are you ready? =/\=
Ayelborne: =/\= Response =/\=
Any: =/\= Responses =/\=
And then she was standing on the bridge of the Chin’toka. The storm was fading in the distance, but there was no sign of the Qin. She checked the chronometer and found that not only had no time passed, but they had actually gone back thirty minutes in time.
Serala: =/\= Fascinating. =/\=
