//Captain’s Log, Stardate 240107.12, Commander Serala reporting

It has been so long since I have seen the Chin’toka. I admit that when I had first been told we would be leaving the Atlantis to take over the new Akira-refit starship, I was a bit saddened. But I fell in love with the Chin’toka almost immediately. What tactical officer wouldn’t? She was designed for battle, though the refit had reduced her attack capability a bit in order to accommodate more science labs. The dark specter that loomed over her when I was forced to temporarily assume command upon her launch was quickly replaced by the presence of the Caitian Captain, Mei’konda Delano, who was dispatched to assume permanent command.

I love this ship. So, why is it that a part of me is recoiling at the idea of what we are about to do? Duty is Honor, Honor is Life, right? And what could be greater than one’s duty to the Federation? And yet, this just goes against all my training.

But, as I told Mei’konda - there, I finally called him by his first name - as I told him, desperate times call for desperate measures.

End Log //

Serala looked up at the San Francisco shipyards and the starship that was very nearly completed with its repairs following the catastrophe that had damaged it nearly to the point of destruction.

Zarax: Commander, we are nearing the Chin’toka. The shipyard is hailing us.

Serala nodded and opened the channel. The face that appeared in her viewer was absolutely the last face she’d ever expected to see. Her mouth quirked in slight amusement to see the slight bent in his nose. A bent that she had put there four years ago.

Serala: Commander Perkins. I guess it’s not such a big galaxy after all. And you got a promotion as well. It’s always a pleasure to speak to you.

The snicker from the Orion fighter pilot who was currently flying her shuttle elicited an even bigger smirk from Serala.

Perkins: Serala. What are you doing here?

Now Serala smiled broadly.

Serala: That’s Commander Serala to you, Perkins. And I am here to assume command of the Chin’toka as ordered.

Esa Kiax had sent over the command codes just moments before. This was to be their first test of authenticity.

oO I hope Esa and the Bynars are just as good as I have always believed them to be Oo

Perkins: I know of no such orders, Serala.

Serala: I am docking this shuttle, Perkins. And the other shuttles behind me are docking as well. We can discuss this when I get there.

Perkins: I am sorry, Commander Serala, but that’s not happening without proper authorization.

Serala nodded with a frown.

oO Still the same old Perkins. I just hope I don’t have to break his nose again. Oo

Serala: Very well. Standby to receive authentication codes from Fleet Admiral Tristan Wolf authenticating my orders to assume command.

She turned and nodded to the other Orion woman, Lieutenant Neshala, who was a skilled Communications Officer, though she’d been trying to get into Helm for years.

Serala: Transmit the authorization, Lieutenant.

She watched as the transmission was sent. Perkins appeared to receive it and examined it. It took several long minutes, during which Perkins’ countenance grew more and more distasteful.

Perkins: As loathe as I am to admit this, Commander, everything seems to be in order. You and the other shuttles are cleared to dock in the main shuttlebay.

Serala closed the channel and turned to the other with her.

Serala: Okay, we have to conduct an inspection to determine what still needs to be done to get her ready for launch. The ship was not expected to launch yet, and there are systems that are going to be out of order. Not to mention a low supply of provisions. Let’s get a quick scan done and get started on it. We need to get underway as quickly as we can.

((OOC: This scene is just meant to get the transfers from Astraeus onto the Chin’toka.))
