(( A "Trusty" Diner, Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania, Earth ))
S'Rorr had taken up some incomprehensibly small fraction of the USS Chin'toka's incomprehensible processing power to ask it what people wore when hiking in the whatever the 'Poconos' were and had replicated that to wear. Backpack full of supplies, red flannel,
blue denim jacket with furry fleece collar and inside, trousers with cargo pockets and the ugliest pair of brown hiking boots the computer could replicate, shaped for Caitian feet. He also had a red knit beanie cap with a big white pom-pom on the top which
he had tucked his hair and ears into. He felt and looked ridiculous but he was also toasty even out in the cold air.
He kept his communicator on him tucked deep into a jacket pocket just in case. He was in FAIR shape but he had no idea what kind of pain junkies his two crewmates Ada and Seleya would turn out to be, and so it felt it paid to be prepared in case he needed to
ask for an emergency beam out.
Sitting at the old diner with its greasy smells and burnt bean juice and crusty booths made him consider asking for that emergency beam out right then and there.. but he was being brave about it and kept it in his pocket. His cup of piping hot, steaming black
coffee was pushed carefully with one fingertip as if it could bite him across the table to Azura who looked like she might enjoy a backup cup of the offensive stuff.
The menus read "Trusty" in quotation marks. S'Rorr wasn't the best at English, he made extensive use of the U.T., but even his tenuous grasp on English grammar made him suspicious of the name.
Ada: It's a regional dialect thing. They use quotation marks when they mean to use Italics. The family that opened the place had the surname Trusty. It doesn't exactly instill confidence, does it?
S'Rorr: It certainly seems.. authentically historical.
Seleya: Response
Ada: ::finishing another sip of coffee:: Mm. It's been so long since I've had the chance to get out in the wilderness, and I've been feeling nostalgic about this region lately. I'm glad you both agreed to join!
S'Rorr: Doc says I need to get out more. Are.. ::reading the menu:: pancakes covered in maple syrup traditional hiking food? I'm getting that.
Seleya: Response
Ada: No, but ever since I first saw the Poconos, I knew I wanted to backpack in the region. Just never got around to it. And Carbon Creek isn't too far from the Poconos, so here we are preparing to ascend White Dial on a winding path to the top.
Seleya: Response
S'Rorr: What's at the top?
Ada/Seleya: Response
S'Rorr: So you're telling me the goal is to walk all the way up to the top, with no vehicles, and when you get there you get to... look around? And then walk back the same way?
Ada/Seleya: Response
S'Rorr: Thrilling. Do they at least let you catch your own snacks?
Ada/Seleya: Response
The table was approached by a human in a white apron with a notepad and pencil ready to take their orders. In a post-scarcity economy, Rory thought that they must really like taking orders if they're doing it for the love of the game and haven't yet given the
task to a computer. They seemed to be in a good mood.
Waitress: Have y'all decided what y'all like?
