(( State Room, Capitol City, Ah'rak IV ))

An explosion went off somewhere and Kim crouched against a wall.  Soon several windows broke.

Sherlock: Everyone alright!?

S'Rorr: What was that?!

Madra: Highness!

Wright: Response

Sherlock: Full scan, I want to know where that was from, how close it was.

Kim opened her tricorder and began scanning.  An explosion that large didn't seem likely.  Were these people trying to create a warp bomb?  No, the local signatures didn't match up with that.  And then she saw the elevated gamma levels and froze.

Corbin/Wright/Madra:  Response

Sherlock: General, you may want to think about getting your people to a secure area.

She suspected Sherlock already knew.

Madra: It isn't safe! We're moving to the bunkers, NOW!

Corbin: Yes.. I agree.

Stapledon:  Commander?  I'm detecting a burst of gamma radiation.

Perastra:  What??

Sherlock: ::to S'Rorr:: If you've got hyronalin, start distributing it the Ah'Rakians.

S'Rorr: Yes sir!

Kim looked over toward Wright.  She suspected that she and possibly Kim herself would need to start thinking about ways to mitigate the possibility of further such devices detonating, whether by accident or as bombs.

Perastra: What is that?

Sherlock: It's a radiation treatment. I'll get a message to our ship and we can start distributing it to the populace. It's one less thing you'll need to worry about.

S'Rorr: ::To Madra's security team lead:: Here.. take this. They inject medicines. Yes, they can go right through light clothing but try to get skin if it's there. That injector has about.. ::mental math:: fifty doses. Use this setting here to reduce the size of the dose for a child. Got it? I've got three more of these, take one. You as well, take one. Get your people out there, let's get this done.

Kim stood up and looked over at Perastra, who had a look of stunned silence on her face.

S'Rorr: You ::to another of Madra's team:: , come with me. ::Walking and talking:: Let's get out there and square off a beam-in location for more supplies and a field hospital for the injured. We're going to need supplies, I'm going to need you to make that happen.

Perastra: Wh-what is happening?

Stapledon:  It's okay.  You'll need radiation treatment as well.

Kim looked over as someone approached with one of the dosages and administered it to Perastra, who still looked visibly shaken.

Wright:  Response

Stapledon:  It's possible.

Wright: Response

Sherlock: It's just another way we can help.

Perastra: Y-yes of-- of course.

Kim accompanied Perastra as they went outside the building.  The first thing she saw was the massive number of fires and the huge column of smoke rising from the distant city.  Higher above she could see atmospheric convection, the air gathering itself and curling back down on the city.

Perastra:  Wha-

Stapledon:  Perastra, I'm sorry to ask you this now, but do you know if the people of this world have been investigating the properties of...  of atoms?

Perastra:  Yes, yes of course, but...

S'Rorr: ::to himself:: Let's get to work.

Kim retrieved her tricorder again, hoping to get a scan of the topography of the area.  She could sense Perastra peering over her shoulder as she worked and felt terrible.  Perastra was going to see the clinical depiction of what she suspected would be the terrible destruction of one of their cities, along with its people.

Sure enough there was a depression in the ground where much of the city had been.  The surface was slowly cooling into a bowl of metal and glass.

Perastra:  What does...

Stapledon:  I'm so sorry, Perastra.

Perastra:  What happened?  Where is--

Stapledon:  Commander?

Sherlock/Wright:  Response

Stapledon:  It looks like a nuclear fission device was detonated at ground level.

Sherlock:  Response

Stapledon:  One option would be to take advantage of the pyrocumulonimbus formation and deliver a radiation treatment that way.  It should even be possible to execute a low pass and angle the deflector dish to drag up the fallout particulates out of the atmosphere and send them maybe toward the sun ::She turned to Lt. Wright::

Wright/Sherlock:  Response

((OOC:  Backsimming engineering solutioning if u like))

Perastra:  What's a pryrocumulonimbus formation?

Kim looked up and pointed at the sky above the city, where a large round cloud was forming.

Stapledon:  It's that cloud.  Uh...  A mushroom cloud.  It's formed by the air from the explosion pulling material from the ground up into the sky.  The bomb was radioactive and right now all the dirt and material from the ground in that cloud is becoming radioactive too.  And.. well...  Soon it will fall out of that cloud.

Wright/Sherlock:  Response

Perastra:  I..  How could it be this huge?

Kim sighed inwardly.  Perastra, it seemed, was in shock.

Stapledon:  Commander, I think everyone here will need more than just radiation treatment.

She looked over at Wright a moment, wondering how a culture with what appeared to be a collective psychic unconscious might deal with a tragedy of this scale.

Wright/Sherlock:  Response
