Her mother had taken to fussing with the train of her dress, trying to lay it out perfectly so that she would be ready once the music was cued up for her entrance. How her dress train looked wasn’t Lael’s focus at the moment. Every time she thought about Chythar waiting for her at the end of that aisle, her chest tightened slightly and her breathing became labored. It had been the only thought going through her mind for the last few minutes, cycling through on repeat.

Her grasp on the bridal bouquet in her hand tightened and relaxed and she had to force herself not to run through the doors and down the aisle before her moment arrived. No. This was Chythar and she would do this right. They’d have these memories for the rest of their lives and she refused to ruin it for them because of her impatience. She exhaled a shaky breath and closed her eyes, seeking his mental presence while erecting shields around her thoughts so they wouldn’t spill over. The last thing that she needed was to accidentally project her anxious thoughts to him.

A moment later, her mother took her place at her side, offering what was meant to be a reassuring smile and nod. Her mother would proceed her and her father down the aisle, one of the last people seated before Lael’s grand entrance. It had been a concession on Lael’s part given that she and Jensar had eloped, depriving her mother of that joy. Their relationship had certainly changed since those days and though it still wasn’t a traditional mother-daughter relationship, Lael had found contentment in what was.

Desai: ::whispers in her ear:: Are you ready for this, karulina?

Her stomach seemed to be doing flips and the churning wasn’t eased by the blunt question. Was she ready? She’d been waiting for this moment for years, dreaming of a time when she would declare before God and everyone her intentions toward the man she loved. It was a formality, but one that she had longed for.

Rosek: ::smiles softly:: More than. I’ve waited far too long for Chythar already.

Aldek chuckled, patting her hand with his. She didn’t miss the twinkle in her father’s eye when his gaze shifted toward her mother. She made the mistake of looking in Adelynn’s direction, her eyes widening when she noted the flush in the woman’s cheeks and the curious way Adelynn’s gaze averted to the floor.

Were her parents flirting? She fought back a grimace of discomfort. It was yet another reminder that she’d underestimated her parents’ affection for each other. She’d always assumed that since mom hadn’t wanted to talk about him that they hated each other for some mysterious reason. But ever since her father had become a more permanent fixture in her life, the pair never failed to make her uncomfortable with their obvious attraction to one another.

It should have thrilled her. Perhaps that would come later. Now she understood what her childhood friends had been talking about when they’d told stories about their parents always kissing and being all lovey-dovey.

At that moment, the doors parted slightly, the pre-ceremony music leaking out into the hall, and Elina’s face appeared from behind it.

Kincade: ::grins:: Two minutes until showtime.

Before any of them could reply, Elina was gone again, the doors closing with a soft thud behind her.

Chythar took a few steady breaths and exhaled. He felt ridiculous in the dress whites, and he still felt the after-effects of the tequila that Cory had inflicted on him the night before. His mental shields were in place and up enough to prevent any feedback loops, and he was trying, without much success, to relax. He felt very, very ridiculous, but he knew he was surrounded by both friends and family here. The Chin’toka, his in-laws, Chris & Cailyn, Maddy, and his assorted family from his previous postings. This was to be his home. These people, his witnesses.

Yes, he was nervous. He maintained his breathing, projecting an outward mask of calm. He refused to let his fear of making an even *bigger* spectacle of himself, or the nervousness he felt in his mind that this would all go horribly wrong, pierce through his mask of calm. He would not. Let. That. Happen.

The familiar beginning strains of Pachelbel’s Canon reached her ears even through the closed door and she felt her heart miss a beat. It was starting. The ceremony was starting. The melody would take the wedding party down the aisle first. She watched as each individual paired up, a bridesmaid with a groomsman. A moment later, the doors to the ceremony room opened and the music filled the halls, louder than moments before. The first pair stepped forward, making their way down the aisle to the altar. When they were about a third of the way down the runner, the next pair went, and then the next.

Snow: Response

Rosek: ::smiles nervously and nods:: See you in there.

Chythar’s face assumed a big, derpy grin. He realized he probably looked like an idiot, but it didn’t matter. Time would stop. Once his lady was by his side, they would both turn to face their captain and be wed in holy matrimony in the eyes of their savior and their chosen family. It would be the best moment of his life.

Skyfire: oO They look beautiful… Oo

The final pair stepped through the doors and she turned to Maddy and Liara, who each stood on either side of an antigrav wagon that Lael had custom-designed to be safe for T’Saara to ride in up the aisle. Maddy and Liara each wore a junior bridesmaid dress with their hair up in crown braids and topped with a flower crown. The infant was dressed in a cute purple flower girl dress with white tights and purple dress shoes. In front of her on the wagon was a large basket of flower petals that the three girls would draw from to “decorate” the aisle on their way to the altar.

Beside them was her nephew, Liam dressed in a white shirt and white tuxedo jacket trimmed in purple, purple bowtie, and black trousers, his hair slicked back with gel. There was a twinkle in the boy’s eye as he held the ring pillow containing her and Chythar’s rings. When it was his turn, Liam straightened the purple lapels of his white jacket before stepping onto the runner and making his way toward the altar.

The girls were next and made their way through the doors. Lael heard a chorus of “awws” from the room beyond as the guests caught sight of the trio. She smiled tearfully, making a mental note to look for the holophotos later. One of them was likely to make its way to the shelf in her office. The girls looked absolutely beautiful in their dresses and it was taking a great deal of effort for her not to cry and ruin her make-up.

She felt her dad squeeze her hand and she chewed on her lower lip, lifting her gaze to the ceiling.

Rosek: oO Lord, please help me keep it together just a little while longer. Oo

Chythar grinned the most cheshire-like grin that he could as he watched the kids decorate the aisle with flower petals, and Liam, looking so sharp bearing the pillow with the rings on it. He’d done well choosing Jayden for the jeweler, and he made a mental note to send Caylin back with some coffee for him as a thank-you for his promptness. He also hoped, perhaps in vain, that nobody noticed the fact that was grinning like an idiot. A very happy idiot.

Suddenly, the music changed to the bridal entrance and she felt butterflies start-up in her stomach. She wasn’t an overt romantic. Her idea of romance tended to be more subtle and less conventional than most people. But the moment the music started playing, she had to remind herself to breathe.

Her mother turned to face her, wiping the droplets of moisture from beneath her eyes that she hadn’t realized had escaped. Lifting her gaze to meet her mother’s, she found a reassuring smile and soft eyes, something that she wouldn’t have expected from the tough-as-nails woman who had raised her to be just as tough. Maybe all of this was getting to her, too.

A. Rosek: ::smiles and murmurs:: You look so beautiful, darling. Your grandfather would be so proud.

That simple statement got her started again and she brought a hand up to fan herself in an effort to fend off the tears. But it was in vain. Again, Adelynn wiped away the moisture.

L. Rosek: ::whispers:: I wish he could be here.

A. Rosek: ::hugs her:: Oh, Lael. He is. He’s with us in spirit. ::pulls back and smile widens:: He wouldn’t miss this day for the universe.

Giving Lael one more hug, she stepped through the doors, making her way up the aisle, leaving Lael alone with her father.
