(( A "Trusty" Diner, Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania, Earth ))

It had been a long, stressful week. Another week of training, learning more about policies, going over data sets, practicing how to interpret them, and taking even more tests. And after her classes were over, Seleya returned to her quarters to study further. She had a lot of catching up to do, and it hadn’t left her any time to socialize.

By the end of the week, Seleya felt as though she had been hitting a brick wall. She had been staring at the same page for an hour, rereading the same sentences, and none of it was sinking in. Perhaps she had overdone it. She had reached the point where she was constantly forgetting everything she read. Maybe the next two days would give her a chance to take a break and approach all of this with a fresh mind.

Checking her communications, she saw that Commander Ada had been looking for people to join her for a hike. Seleya certainly enjoyed outdoor activities, as she often found starships uncomfortably cold. She replied to the message, letting the Commander know she would be available.

The next day, she beamed down to a small Earth town at the foot of the mountains. Seleya wasn’t entirely familiar with the area, and the diner looked very out of date for the times, but perhaps that was part of its charm. She entered and saw that S’Rorr would be joining them as well. Taking a seat at the booth, she nodded to them both.

Ada: It's a regional dialect thing. They use quotation marks when they mean to use Italics. The family that opened the place had the surname Trusty. It doesn't exactly instill confidence, does it?

S'Rorr: It certainly seems.. authentically historical.

Seleya: Historical does seem a good way to describe it.

Seleya took a sip of her coffee, historically it would seem a good way to describe this brew as well. Normally Kazleti tended to favor bitter tastes, but this tasted a bit stale. She set down the cup and then gently pushed it away as she listened to the conversation.

Ada: ::finishing another sip of coffee:: Mm. It's been so long since I've had the chance to get out in the wilderness, and I've been feeling nostalgic about this region lately. I'm glad you both agreed to join!

S'Rorr: Doc says I need to get out more. Are.. ::reading the menu:: pancakes covered in maple syrup traditional hiking food? I'm getting that.

Seleya: I’ve been locked in classrooms recently, so it will be nice to get it. Are you from this area, commander?

Ada: No, but ever since I first saw the Poconos, I knew I wanted to backpack in the region. Just never got around to it. And Carbon Creek isn't too far from the Poconos, so here we are preparing to ascend White Dial on a winding path to the top.

Seleya tilted her head. Ada seemed to speak of these places with much familiarity. Seleya was familiar with Earth geography, maybe Ada grew up in this area.

Seleya: Is that a place of significance on Earth?

S'Rorr: What's at the top?

Ada: Reponse

Seleya: I am assuming a good view, and a sense of achievement.

Ada: Response

S'Rorr: So you're telling me the goal is to walk all the way up to the top, with no vehicles, and when you get there you get to... look around? And then walk back the same way?

Seleya nodded to S’Rorr. Seems this would be the doctor’s first hike, or first mountain hike maybe. Hopefully once they reached the peak he would understand it better

Seleya: Indeed Doctor, it is enjoyable and good exercise.

Ada: Response

S'Rorr: Thrilling. Do they at least let you catch your own snacks?

Seleya: I am unsure of Earth’s laws regarding hunting wildlife.

Ada: Response

Waitress: Have y'all decided what y'all like?

Seleya looked back over the menu, it did not inspire much confidence in her that this would be especially healthy. Perhaps she should have used her room's replicator. However it was too late, so she decided to order something safe.

Seleya: Yes, I will have the egg combination plate. Scrambled, with sausage, wheat toast and a fruit salad. I would also like water, please.

Ada/S’Rorr: Response

Seleya: So, how does this hike typically take, Commander?

Ada/S’Rorr: Response

Seleya: Unfortunately, I do have to report back to Starbase 1 for training on Monday morning.

Ada/S’Rorr: Response
