((USS Chin’toka, Deck 2, Port Observation Deck))
Aine had picked up on where this was going early on, but it just wasn't in the cards for the Lieutenant. Nonetheless, Aine had fun with the situation. And the truth was that if this had happened a year and a half ago, it probably would have worked. But now, she was a mother in a committed relationship and for the foreseeable future those days were over.
Seleya: What do you say we get out of here and make a story of our own?
Seleya's hand reached out and gripped Aine's, followed by what Aine read as a sly grin.
Sherlock: Yeah, let's go back to your quarters.
Seleya: I knew you’d be interested. I bet it’s the Ny’krl, girls are always curious about the Ny’krl.
Her grin strained as she tried not to laugh. The Ny'krl were interesting, sure.
Sherlock: Oh, absolutely. ::beat:: So I can put you to bed ::beat:: alone.
Seleya: Well, I was probably gonna kick you out anyways after, so isn’t this a perfect coincidence.
The smile across Aine's face in that moment was nearly breaking out into a laugh. This had been fun, but it wasn't going to go THAT way. Maybe if it had been a year and a half earlier, but not now.
Sherlock: You've been through some stuff recently, you're drunk, and this isn't happening. ::long pause:: But it was a nice try though.
Seleya: Awwww, so it wasn’t the Ny’krl.
Sherlock: It's not you, it's me.
She could believe she'd just said THAT line. But it was true.
Seleya: My quarters should be on Deck 5. I think I can walk there.
As Seleya got up, ready to walk away in defeat, Aine took a quick sip of her whiskey. She had one last piece of advice to give...
Sherlock: Lieutenant ::beat:: never give up. The future isn't written in stone.
...she gave Seleya one last nod, sending her off. Slumping back in her chair she looked out the windows of the lounge and took another drink. The grin came back and she shook her head as she thought to herself, remembering moments similar to this happening to other senior officers when she was a lowly JG. My how the times had changed.
