((First Officer’s Office, Deck 3, USS Chin’toka))
Her new office stank. Annoyingly of whiskey and… eau de Sherlock. T’Ama regretted not taking the nasal inhibitors today. She would have to have the office…. sanitized.
Her door chimed.
T’Ama: Enter.
T’Ama’s brow furrowed as Seleya stepped in quickly and came to attention. She was radiating tension, that much was clear.
Seleya: Commander, do you have a moment to talk.
T’Ama: Of course, Lieutenant.
She didn’t offer her a seat. It seemed like the lieutenant needed to stand for this one.
Seleya: I need to file a formal complaint against Lieutenant Is’kah.
She didn’t fully manage to stifle an eyeroll at Is’Kah’s name.
T’Ama: What has Is’Kah done this time?
She really, really hoped it didn’t involve public nudity. Again.
Seleya: We just had a meeting where zha was asking about my people’s sensitivity to sound. Is’kah then wanted to suggest I should be removed from certain duties because zha is assuming I was uncomfortable and needed the help, when I never ask zha for help.
T’Ama: Go on.
Seleya: I’ve never felt more insulted and made to feel like a liability to the crew. Zha even thought that they could request me to take daily medication, or wear a sound dampening device. Zha even mentioned they were thinking of ways to use that sound sensitivity against me. Zha even claimed my case is different from any other race that may be sensitive to sound because I went down on the last mission, even though that reason I stayed down had nothing to do with my Ny’Krl, and also, none of Zhen’s business.
Seleya was obviously becoming more upset as the words kept spilling out.
T’Ama: Take a seat, Lieutenant.
She gestured towards the chair.
Seleya: It felt like I was being singled out, and that Zha were using my people’s own biology as a reason to discriminate against me. How is this a thing in the Federation or even Starfleet? None of zha’s concerns were even based on my actual medical situation. Nor has our medical department suggested that my Ny’krl would be a liability to this ship. So I don’t know why zha thinks they have any authority in this.
T’Ama: Well, they don’t. That lies with Medical, and there’s a reason the CMO can relieve even the captain of duty - they’re actually trained medical doctors. Though I think you know all that already.
Seleya: response
T’Ama: What were the ways she thought up to use sound sensitivity against you?
Seleya: response
T’Ama raised an eyebrow.
T’Ama: You want out so bad you’re willing to do holodeck filter duty?
Not that she was being punished with it, that was just one of the grunt jobs that could be done without specialized training.
Seleya: response
