((Deck 11, Training Holosuite - U.S.S. Chin’Toka))
Is’Kah: Walk with me, Seleya.
She sharply turned on the heel of her boot and began a brisk walk. At least brisk for her, someone of Seleya’s stature would likely see it as a normal pace.
Seleya: Uhm.. Yes, Lieutenant.
Is’Kah: I am not discontent with the training issue; instead, I am distressed that Commander Sherlock apprehended you in the act. Whatever you did, you got caught doing it, which tells me that you weren’t thinking ahead and considering the consequences of your actions.
Seleya: You are distressed because the Commander responded to the alert faster, Lieutenant?
Is’Kah: As an officer, it is imperative to contemplate the potential outcomes and how others may perceive such actions. The enlisted personnel rely on us to provide appropriate leadership, confident in our commitment to avoid placing them in unnecessary jeopardy. Acting impulsively undermines the trust that they have placed in us.
Seleya: I understand what you are saying, Lieutenant. But I feel uncomfortable with the assumptions you are making and the location you have chosen. Perhaps we can table this discussion until you have the facts from the Commander’s report and then we can go from there in a more professional environment?
Is’Kah: Yet, you are not in trouble. The Commander has already taken care of that. ::beat:: I am not explaining myself properly.
Seleya: Very well, Lieutenant.
The hybrid glanced down, gathering her thoughts.
Is’Kah: I had intended to ask you to join me on a 5K run, given your evident abundance of energy. Many cadets at the academy preferred to exercise along the beach, as it facilitated mental clarity. This consideration influenced my decision to select this location.
Seleya: Response
The hybrid looked up at Seleya, worry creeping in her monotone.
Is’Kah: I acknowledge the aspiration to enhance oneself and to train diligently to demonstrate that one truly belongs among the stars. Hestia is aware of how fervently I desired to achieve the same as a newly appointed Ensign. However, I strongly advise against overexerting yourself in training, as I did while on the USS Ronin.
Seleya: Response
Is’Kah: You are hereby dismissed until 0400 hours, at which time the Alpha shift commences its daily physical training.
Seleya: Response
Is’Kah pinched the bridge of her nose as the Ensign left the holodeck. This leadership thing wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. After removing her boots and setting them aside, the hybrid started jogging, slowly picking up speed until she was nearly sprinting across the wet sand. It gave Is’Kah time to think about how she should have handled speaking with Seleya better.
oO I could have handled that better. Leadership is hard, and something I clearly need to learn sooner then later. Engineering was so much easier: take a team and repair things, or hide away in a nacelle while tweaking something. Between watching the burdens of command when the consortium attacked and now this, I don’t know how well suited I am for a command track or leadership in any role. Should I ask to return to Engineering? I don’t think Captain Serala would give her approval. Perhaps Commander Sherlock would have advice as to how to lead my way out of a wet paper bag? Oo
