((Starbase 1, Deck 53, Upper Mezzanine))
Korin eyed her for a moment. Damn—she hadn’t said her species, and he honestly wasn’t knowledgeable enough to name species off the top of his head. He let out a huff of air at his failure to get her to say it. Even when he thought about what she said next, about Khanda indicating a population, he had no idea what that meant.
When she mentioned the military, he considered it for a moment. His home had pushed far too hard to be overly peaceful, never learning from the mistakes of the past. They had been so scared of recreating old horrors that they tried to distance themselves from war as much as possible.
Dasal: Is this your first time moving ships? I’m still excited a whole new ship to get lost on before I even learn my way around the Chin’toka
He noticed her set down her PADD and felt, for a moment, that he was intruding on her studies—or at least on her time. That wasn’t new for him; he often tried to gauge whether others found him rude. Still, she continued the conversation, so he decided it was better not just to apologize, but to keep the dialogue going.
Seleya: This will be my first time, yes. I was assigned to Chin'toka after I graduated. But at least you didn’t get attached to the ship before we moved. Hopefully you did not already unpack all your belongings.
Dasal: I- um- Kind of totally did. So- yaa, got to repack back up. Well my room looked amazing for all of two days.
Seleya: What got you into medicine? And if you don’t mind, what made you choose Starfleet?
Dasal: Meds and Starfleet. Oh good questions! Well I wanted to learn more about the body. About what makes us, us. Our genetic design and how it makes us up. My home planet doesn’t like that train of thought. So I thought about where else to go but Starfleet. I can learn about not just my own people’s cellular structure but so many races!
Seleya: Going to be nervous for your first mission? They can sometimes get intense or go unplanned.
He gave a dramatic sigh as she asked that of him.
Dasal: Honestly scared out of my mind. In my graduation mission. I ran off away from my group because I wanted to be the best science officer I could be and get the information right away. Then a hostile creepy jumped out of the woods. I fell in the water, and somehow they said it was okay for me to be on a starship now. I think they are crazier than me. ::he laughed:: what about you, why do you join Starfleet?
Seleya: Response
She felt very different from him, her background and her reasons for being in Starfleet. She had been in the military before and now joined what would be more explorers and peacekeepers. He thought about her words and listened, but the persistent question of her species still nudged at his mind. His curiosity eventually got the better of him, and he flopped forward onto the table. He gave her innocent, pleading eyes, hoping she would take it as harmlessly as possible.
Dasal: Okay I give up, what species are you? Is that rude? Sorry if it is, I just really want to know.
Seleya: Response
He smiled shyly and placed a hand over his eyes giving an over dramatic sigh. He was glad he didn’t have any sense of pride because he would be so wounded right now. He peeks out of his fingers.
Dasal: Well knowledge is power and I guess I’m learning a lot already being in Starfleet. I think you look amazing by the way. I noticed your tattoos, are they a cultural thing or for fun. I got some too, they are just for fun. Younger years of rebelling but they also just look nice.
