Seleya: What did you want to talk about, Lieutenant?
The hybrid folded zhen hands on the edge of the desk. Is’Kah briefly considered the best way to approach the topic before deciding to be direct.
Is’Kah: I’ve noticed that you were uncomfortable around loud noises, and then you were affected the most by the sonic boom when the ship was flown into the atmosphere. Does your species have any audio sensitivities I should be aware of?
Seleya: Our Ny’krl can pick up sounds that most other species that aren’t sensitive to sound can’t hear, but all of that should be public records.
Is’Kah: I understand that you think it isn’t an issue, but if I were to take out a blow horn and use it right now, are you going to collapse and become incapacitated from it? There are dozens of what-ifs running through my mind right now of how to use your sensitivity against you tactically.
Seleya’s body language told Is’Kah that zha totally broke the Wheaton rule and hadn’t realized it until it was too late. Zha was quite rude in zhen comment, meaning zha had chosen the wrong words. Zha had just dismissed part of her species as not mattering, and that was not what zha had meant to do. Zha thought zha had been getting better at that, but clearly, zhen mouth still got ahead of zhen.
Is’Kah: I’m not worried about the known unknowns and your ability to prepare for them. The issue is with the unknown unknowns, as shown by Ensign Callahan’s flying.
Seleya: Can that not apply to anyone, Lieutenant?
Is’Kah: Not in this case, because you were the only one to remain incapacitated for an extended time as a result of said flying.
Seleya: Why is this just now becoming an issue, Lieutenant?
Is’Kah: We were deployed before I could speak with you about my concerns, Lieutenant Seleya.
Seleya: So what are you wanting to do about this?
Folding zhen hands in zhen lap, Is’Kah took a moment before responding.
Is’Kah: First, I would like to apologize for my poor word choices a few moments ago. What I said was dismissive and more than a little disrespectful. That was not my intention.
oO Anything else is just an excuse for rudeness. I’ve errored nearly every time I’ve spoken with her. I’ve been getting better about my choices, but I clearly have a long way to go. Oo

Is’Kah: The reason why I wanted to speak with you was to find out what I can do for you to alleviate this, either by choosing someone else for any mission with crowds, or working with you to find a way to negate this issue in the field. No one should suffer from pain just because they are on duty.

Is’Kah: I would prefer to avoid requesting that you use daily medications. How uncomfortable is the sound-dampening device?
