The trip from Shemsh Colony had been a long one. She’d intended to leave her family there, but Jorin had insisted they come with. They’d be returning to the colony in a few weeks because he had an assignment from the Republic, and Serala would feel more comfortable with her children in the safety of the colony. The new transfers from the Astraeus had come along with her and she’d enjoyed spending some time getting to know them as well. She had landed on the ship only to learn that her First Officer was preparing to award the mission ribbons to the crew. She didn’t fault Aine; she’d have done likewise. But she did have a few presentations of her own to make, so she quickly went to her quarters and obtained the awards she needed, then had herself directly beamed to the resort where the awards were being handed out.
The blue glow faded around her as she heard the First Officer finishing up her presentation in the next room over. She quickly strode over and entered the banquet hall.
Sherlock: HQ has also seen fit to award me the Diplomacy Ribbon. So there's that. ::brief pause:: A little over a year ago, Frontier Day happened. Quite a few of you were there. It wasn't an easy day. We stole a ship, ::gesturing towards the ceiling:: the Chin'toka. Needless to say, it was something of an odd start that I don't know any of us thought would lead us to where we are now. I, for one, didn't expect it. But it's been over a year now. For that, Captain Serala, once she's back, will be receiving the Starship Commander Ribbon and I am receiving the First Officer Ribbon.
She noticed Aine looking around and decided it was time.
Serala: Well, it’s good to know our efforts haven’t been overlooked, Number One.
Sherlock: Response
Smiling broadly, she made her way to the area where Aine was presenting the mission ribbons.
Serala: Well, it appears I arrived just in the nick of time.
Sherlock: Response
She smiled and turned to face the crew.
Serala: It would seem you missed a few things, Number One. But not your fault as these notifications are usually sent directly to me.
Serala turned to face the crew more fully and pulled out data padd.
Serala: Ensigns Lyara Alroyo and Seleya of Khanda, front and center please.
She waited for the two to make their way to the front then looked down at them. There was a tired old joke about being out of uniform, but Serala had decided to forgo that joke. Even she was getting tired of it. She picked up her padd and read from it.
Serala: By the authority of Starfleet Command, Lyara Alroyo and Seleya of Khanda are promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, effective Stardate 240208.24. Congratulations, Lieutenants.
Serala took two of the boxes she had brought with her and stepped down to pin the half-pip on each of their collars, then shake their hands.
Serala: Well done, both of you.

She then looked down at her padd and read off the next two names.
Serala: Lieutenant Junior Grade Is’Kah Xiron and Lieutenant Junior Grade Leenaya Edrei, front and center.
Once the Acting Chiefs made their way to the front, she smiled at them and then once more began to read.
Serala: By the authority of Starfleet Command, Is’Kah Xiron and Leenaya Edrei are promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, effective Stardate 240208.24. Congratulations, Lieutenants. Furthermore, each of you are hereby appointed as the Chief of your respective departments. Congratulations.

Serala once more stepped down and this time replaced the hollow pips with full pips, shaking each person’s hands. They were her new Chief of TacSec and Chief Medical Officer and she had full confidence in them to perform their functions.

Serala then looked over the assembled crew and found the next person on her list.
Serala: Next, I need Lieutenant V’Nille to report front and center, please.
Once the calico Caitian had made her way to the front, she read from the padd once more.
Serala: By the authority of Starfleet Command, V’Nille is hereby promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, effective Stardate 240208.24. Congratulations, Commander.

While promotions were always a great time for Serala, there were certain promotions that held more weight with her. And this next one was one of those.
Serala: Aine Sherlock, front and center please.
She waited for her First Officer to take her place at the front. She would eventually read from the padd, but she had a few comments to make first.
Serala: Number One, in my absence, you’ve done an excellent job commanding the Chin’toka. Although the mission was technically not a success, the information your teams recovered is invaluable. Furthermore, you didn’t destroy the ship, so that’s a bonus for me.
Sherlock: Response
Serala: From the moment you stepped aboard as my First Officer, I knew you were someone on the rise. I’ve been truly impressed with your performance since you’ve arrived. Therefore, it’s my pleasure to read the following citation.
She lifted the padd and began to read once more.
Serala: Attention to Orders: The President of the Federation, acting upon the recommendation of Starfleet Command, has placed special trust and confidence in the patriotism, integrity, and abilities of Lieutenant Commander Aine Sherlock. In view of these special qualities, and her demonstrated potential to serve in the next higher grade, Lieutenant Commander Aine Sherlock is promoted to the rank of Commander, Starfleet, effective Stardate 240208.24. Congratulations, Commander Sherlock!
She turned to the crew and smiled.
Serala: Three cheers for Commander Sherlock. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
