(( 4 weeks ago, T’Pa Residence, Vulcan ))

Is’Lath set her tea cup on the coffee table, dissecting the flavor of the leaves used. T’Pa had found an exquisite blend this time.

Is’Lath: I detect a dash of Trill kobka flower. Is that correct?

T’Pa: Yes. I found them on my last trip to Trill, in a market in one of their only deserts.

Is’Lath: I am familiar with that market.

The door chimed, causing Is’Lath to tilt her head. It was unusual for anyone to be calling at the residence besides her at this time of day.

T’Pa was curious who could be interrupting tea. As she left, Is’Lath picked up her teacup.

T’Pa: Please excuse me.

She answered the door and accepted a tablet from a messenger, who left without a word. She read the tablet as she walked back into the dining area. Is’Lath didn’t look to the door as she lowered her tea.

Is’Lath: What did the diplomatic corps send you this time?

She froze on the word T’Hana. It took T’Pa a moment to continue reading.

T’Pa: They found her.

Shock passed through Is’Lath. That wasn’t something she ever expected to hear, but the odds were not very good that she was still alive.

Is’Lath: After all this time. Is she alive?

T’Pa: They found my child on a Starfleet vessel.

Emotions swirled inside T’Pa as if she were a desert hosting a tornado.

T’Pa: Pack quickly.

Is’Lath: I shall ask my mother if we can take the clan ship.

The mother left the room abruptly and almost ran to her sleeping chamber. She paused in front of her closet to keep her hand from grabbing random pieces of clothing. Grasping to hold onto logic, she stilled herself and held her mind in a moment of meditation until she could come up with a practical list of items to pack.

T’Pa: oO I will see you soon, my child. Oo

(( Current day, Wright Quarters, USS Chin’toka, Docked Starbase 1))

Hana held up two separate makeup palettes, considering them. She was sat cross-legged on her bed with all the makeup she owned laid out before her.

Wright: How does one do colour correction for green undertones? Do they even make stuff like that? I mean what colour would the blush be. Green?

Hana sighed. All the makeup tutorials she had watched as a kid did not make her any better at doing anything more than giving her skin a pinker tone.

Is’Kah: I would have figured that you would have noticed that red is a complementary colour of green.

The petite hybrid shuttered at the memory of finding acne one morning. Zha had been so embarrassed that zha almost didn’t go to class that morning. Is’Kah was grateful to the one girl who taught her how to hide blemishes.

Wright: ::sticking her tongue out:: Meanie. I know what I’m doing…kinda.

Hana shuddered at the memory of her teenage battle with acne. Zits tinted green were a sickly look.

Is’Kah: You apply makeup as a human would, thus you do know what you’re doing. Just not for Vulcan’s, but it’s mostly a colour palette that we’ll play with.

Zha picked up one of zhen cosmetic container and collected a little makeup on a brush.

Wright: But I’m not a Vulcan either am I?

She sighed, her eternal battle was rearing its ugly head particularly badly lately and the tides were shifting in ways that made her uncomfortable. She had always viewed it as a battle with a clear hero and villain, her human side valiantly beating back  Vulcan cruelty. But things had been blurring and even though she had just been treated like a monster for being Vulcan it was starting to feel a lot more like she didn’t know what she was anymore.

Wright: Whatever. Colour theory. How do I not look like I’m about to vomit while doing blush that actually matches what colour I…well blush.

Narrowing zhen eyes, Is’Kah glared at the self-deprecrating comment Hana made.

Is’Kah: First off, you are a Vulcanoid. You may not wish to acknowledge that, but there are a great number of pointed-eared::beat:: species in the Federation. Perhaps you could view yourself more like that?

Wright: I mean you said it yourself. I’m pretty good at being human…not so much at being Vulcan.

Is’Kah: And I am a vampire that does a crappy job of being a Vulcan. What does that have to do with the price of tea on Frenginar?

Hana snorted.

Wright: Right. I’m sorry. It feels like we’re always talking about my Vulcan-themed issues.

Is’Kah: Hana, my partner has sat with me to discuss my own Vulcan-themed issues. Mostly to point out how illogical it is to have only logic. Listening to your worries is the least I can do since I can sympathize with them.

Wright: Story of my goddamn life. What logic is there in sealing off a part of yourself?

Is’Kah: Surak had a form of Vulcan autism, at least that’s the going theory among some academic circles. I’ve come to realize that it’s not healthy for those who are not to lock themselves away like that.

Wright: I would have words with that guy if he wasn’t super dead. Say what you will about humans but at least we left our own dusty old men behind. I doubt he’d like me very much.

Before leaning forward, Is’Kah put a pair of plastic gloves on before zha started applying a foundation to Hana’s face. The colour helped complement the Human hybrid’s undertones.

Is’Kah: You could request to speak with him, but to my understanding, he has a several-year-long waiting list. You’ll probably get your chance in about fifteen years or so.

Wright: You know, I still can’t believe that’s a thing. That Vulcans can just talk to someone’s soul like that. It doesn’t matter anyway. They wouldn’t let someone like me do anything like that. I’m an outsider.

Is’Kah: Hana, you are a daughter of Vulcan. You meet the required qualifications. Do you mind closing your eyes for me?

Hana closed her eyes.

Wright: How can I be a daughter of a planet I’ve never stepped foot on. I’ve been to earth, we're on Earth. My dad grew up here.

Is’Kah: I am a daughter of Andoria, and I have yet to set foot on the planet. I’ve seen my clan records proclaiming as such. You don’t need to step on a planet to be one of its children.
