(( Bridge, Deck 3 - Primary Hull, USS Chin’toka ))
Serala watched as the ship began to creep forward. In any other time, she would have been excited and proud. But this was not the time for that. The existence of the Federation was at stake. Her pride would wait for another day. Once they’d cleared moorings, she ordered the ship to set course for the parade, noting that the ships were already forming up into diamond formations.
And then the unthinkable happened. Some of her crew, younger members, began to change. At first, they simply stopped moving, but then she saw the black lines begin to appear on their faces and their eyes turn as black as Ensign McGillian’s Rodulan ones.
oO This is what they were planning. Oo
Borgified Crewmen (in unison): WE ARE THE BORG.
Serala: Security alert! Computer, secure the bridge.
Serala pulled out the hidden phaser in her armrest and immediately rose to her feet.
The crew that had changed suddenly began to advance and Serala opened fire, her phaser set to stun in hopes that they could find a way to save the crew later. At the same time, reports began to flood in from around the ship. More Borg, more attacks. Her first command and she was about to lose it to the damned Borg.
Sherlock: Protect the Captain!
Serala immediately looked around for Mei’konda before realizing that she was the Captain being referred to, then briefly cursed herself for her instincts and ducked as a phaser blast was sent in her direction.
McGillian: I'm on it!
T’Ama (in unison): ELIMINATE THE UNASSIMILATED.
Serala: I’m perfectly capable of–
A phaser blast from Borg-T’Ama streaked her way and she took a grazing shot on her left shoulder, causing her to miss her mark as she returned fire.
Sherlock: Lieutenant! Stand down!
The shot from Sherlock preceded her own by milliseconds, and owing to the numbness from Borg-T’Ama’s hit, her shot went wide, striking the Operations Officer turned Borg in the face, right where her eye patch had just been, searing away the patch and burning a swath of skin from her face.
oO Elements. She’s lost that eye for real now. I just hope we can fix the burns if we’re able to get her back to normal somehow. Oo
McGillian: NO!
Serala looked over to see Sherlock engaged in battle with another Borg crewman.
Serala: Secure the Bridge.
Sherlock: Mac! Get the Captain to the ready room!
oO Like hell. Oo
Serala turned her phaser and fired on the crewman doing battle with Sherlock. She was going to be damned if she was going to lose this ship only minutes out of drydock. The blast struck, but had little effect. She didn’t want to kill her people, hoping that there was some way to reverse the effects, but if stun didn’t work, she might not have much choice. She fired two consecutive blasts into the crewman.
Any: Responses
McGillian: Captain, with me!
Serala: I am not leaving this bridge, Ensign. Not while my people are still in danger. And I am not surrendering to the Borg.
Nevertheless, she was being forced back, step-by-step and soon heard the door to her ready room open behind her. A second lanter, Ensign McGillian took a shot in his arm, then was grabbed by a Borg and slammed into the bulkhead.
McGillian: ::pained and surprised:: Ahhh!
McGillian was using all of his strength to get the Borg-crewman off of him, but she was Romulan and three times stronger than a Human. She reached over with her good arm and flung the crewman backward several feet into the banister around the command pit.
Serala: Quit goofing, Ensign.
McGillian: Thank you Sir. Let's move!
T’Ama: Response
Sherlock: Lieutenant! If you can hear me, stand down!
Three of Twelve (T’Ama): Eliminate the unassimilated. Seize the bridge.
Sherlock: Don't make me...
Serala had spun, standing now in the doorway to her Ready Room, but not yet ready to make a full retreat. Always before, she was the security officer, the First Officer. It had been her job to protect the Captain. Now she was the Captain and she fought every instinct in her. She saw a Borg approaching Aine from behind and was about to call out a warning, but the Borg struck her first, causing her to fall to the ground.
Three of Twelve (T’Ama): Computer, download and install Fleet Formation software upgrade. Authorization override: T’Ama six-four-three-five.
oO Yyaio susse’thrai Oo (Romulan expletives - Censored)
Sherlock: response
Serala: Computer. This is Commander Serala, Commanding Officer. Disregard order to download and initiate emergency bridge lockout procedures. Authorization Serala Sierra errr lli hwi kre ehrie. Execute.
She’d been about to lockout the bridge anyway, but with the download in progress she’d had no choice. The computer beeped acknowledgement of the order, then every console on the bridge went dark.
Comms, however, still continued to be piped into the bridge and she could hear the battle being fought all over the ship. The screams.
oO No! No more plaques! Oo
She pulled McGillian into her Ready Room and flung one of the Borg off of Sherlock, hoping to give her a chance to get to her feet. The First Officer was not looking good, but they needed to get control of this ship. With the bridge locked out, her console in her Ready Room was their next best chance. But first, they needed to get inside and get it secured.
Serala: Sherlock, get in. Now!
Sherlock: Response
McGillian: Response
They fought the Borg hand to hand for several more long seconds before the three of them were able to retreat inside the Ready Room. Serala closed the door and sealed it.
Serala: Guard the door. I am going to secure the bridge.
Sherlock / McGillian: Responses
She sat at her seat and activated the terminal. It’s display blank, a result of the lockout.
Serala: Computer, this is the Captain. Remove all codes from Lieutenant JG T’Ama. Additionally, reactivate this station only and route command functions to my terminal.
There was a beep and her console came alive.
Sherlock / McGillian: Responses
Serala: I am going to put them where any intruder belongs. In the brig. At least for now. Hopefully, it will take the Borg a while to get access to release them. Either way, the bridge access was locked out immediately, so they can’t get here without extreme effort.
Sherlock / McGillian: Responses
Serala: Computer, lock onto the combadges of all personnel on the bridge and beam them immediately to the brig and erect a level ten forcefield.
The computer beeped and beyond the doors she heard the distinct whine of transporter beams.
